re: We need to sit back and give BK his credit for what he has done with this program thus far

Brian Kelly might end up being a great coach because he so far has shown that he is willing to learn from his mistakes but the true story of LSU's success is really Jaden Daniels. Malik Neighbors and Brian Thomas Jr being here when they got here . I mean without that trio, Brian Kelly would already be dead in the water also from a pure roster standpoint right now we have finally entered that a range of roster and plugged a lot of holes but we are not an A+ roster yet and some of that has to do with Brian Kelly being hard-headed and stubborn about Nil which was entirely his fault and it set us back an entire year

All B.K teams he has build up usually start to get going in years 4 and 5 . I’m really expecting the O-line to be good this year and really be able to run the ball consistently. I also believe the season we have depend on our Db plays too . We need them guys to make plays this year .

It all depends on how we improve this season. If we don't make the playoffs and get boat raced by BAMA again. He needs to be on the hot seat; however if we make the final 4 teams in the playoffs that's a really good season. Next step 2026 will be can we sustain a top 15 defense year in a year out and does the Oline become elite because almost all will be returning for 2nd-3rd year.

BK has done less than Saban, Miles or Orgeron in the same amount of time. Dude is an underachieving loser. He will never win anything at LSU.

The facts are
3-6 vs Top 25 opponents
2-5 vs Top 10 opponents
3 shitty bowl games
4-11 vs top 10 opponents at Notre Dame seems like a trend.
You forgot 0-3 in season openers...

Another way of looking at it is he took a team that had been 5-5 and 6-7 the two years before.

Not holding my breath. Im more wait and see. I hope they do well.

I am, as always, starting the season optimistic. In particular, Whit Weeks' winner/competitive attitude will be contagious, he and Harold will have this defense clicking. Nuss is looking like more of a leader. I think he understands that he will have to take opportunities to run when his receivers are covered. I think he will play a little more like Jayden Daniels this season.
We have some really good players, and I think we will see more of a team mentality like we did on the baseball team. In the NIL landscape, I think a lot of players had lost sight of that and become ME oriented. From all the player interviews recently, it seems like a chemistry has developed.
Hope I'm not wrong about that.

How so?
Only difference is the open market on players.
Did we buy enough talent to make BK appear competent?

Honestly I this this program was cooked before Austin Thomas came back. Our roster management and staffing was fricking pathetic the first two seasons.
He’s clearly a sharp guy but I’m in the party of “less golf course and more oversight” after the first two seasons and I think he’s gotten the message.

Saban, Les and O inherited talent. Les and O inherited a championship program. Kelly had to rebuild. Don't really give a crap that he's a year behind because of The House firing. He has shown the ability to change with the times and that is what gives me the optimism for this season and the program moving forward. He has put together the most talented team he has had since getting here and he has also put together an NFL style staff that will ensure our recruiting continues its current path. The people saying he'll never accomplish anything here are probably the same people that wanted JD benched and Jay Johnson fired after last year.

To his credit, stabilizing the program, building a culture and navigating the fast changing landscape is no small feat. Plenty of high profile programs are trying to adjust with varying degrees of success. He should get big credit for that.
OTOH, I am still baffled at how a coach of his experience could not find a way to fix the 23 defense all season. It seems to me that the ole miss game was where major, major changes needed to be made but the d didn't really get much better after that. I don't know what those changes would be but how does someone of his stature not know how to improve the statistically worst d lsu has ever had? Almost ANY changes would have been an improvement. It's almost like he was hands off the whole season on that side of the ball and just watched it burn every game.
He has also been responsible for 4 or 5 of the worst beatdowns I have ever seen the tigers suffer in 40 years of watching. Outside of his tenure, I can count 8 or 9 off the top of my head. Even curley's teams were somewhat competitive, even though they lost most games. His only 3 good wins are 22 bama, 23 missouri and 24 ole miss. Those are solid but, rare and definitely not elite. Heck, he hasn't even gotten the tigers in position to even play an elite game, much less win.
I would characterize his results as "mixed" so far.
LSU has 6 tough games this year (Clemson, Florida, 8-4, Bama, Ole Miss, Ok), 4 on the road. I do think the team will be improved but, enough to make the playoffs? Out of 6 tough games, it would not surprise me if LSU lost 3 or 4, especially given his track record so far at LSU.
I get that he's been embracing the challenge but the flip side is he's written checks with his mouth that he might not be able to cash; win the 1st game, best roster yet, taking receipts, etc. If LSU misses the playoffs, that's going to be some huge egg on his face. He said that before, he didn't have the roster and now he does. So missing the playoffs is going to be squarely on the coaching. I know he's a very good coach. I just don't know if he's going to get into the elite category. TBD

He took a team over that was depleted by a moron named Farmer Fran Orgeron and brought it back to respectability

LSU averaged 9 wins per year in the 10 years prior to BK and that is WITH a 15 win season. They also only won 10 games twice in that time frame and both were with Joe Burrow at QB. The best 10 year stretch in school history was from 2003-2012. LSU won 107 games during that span and averaged 10.7 wins per year. Edited because I missed a year in my calculation. We still didn't average 10 wins in the decade prior to BK though.
HOW DARE YOU FACT-CHECK AND DO MATH!?!?
You must be a democrat-socialist, haha

LSU can definitely make a statement in this opener and they finally have the roster to do it.

Clemson or bust. Sure, the team can overcome an opening game loss but a win sets a different tone to start what could be a great season.
I have personally never cared for Kelly. Didn’t like his arrogant demeanor. That said, there was a lot of work to be done when he arrived at LSU and he appears up to the challenge and has done a lot to upgrade talent, install structure, build out the front office, etc.
I hope he has upgraded how he approaches preparation for the first game.
