I think we're just a few plays away. We've got to get a kicker and dedicated special teams coach or focus. We're right there. Will be interesting to see what changes we make to get the adrenaline going.

So much truth in your statement. Will love to read the arguments against this. Privy to some of the "get togethers" when Saban was "educating". We are so far removed from that level of dedication to winning that it is unrecognizable.

It is manifesting itself in many ways, emptying stadiums, lack of bowl game attendance, recruiting drop-off, allowing unwanteds, aka, governor, to wander into the program.

In 2015, LSU should have told Les it would be his final year and began the search for a top tier AD and HC. Even if that would have taken an interim HC for all of 2016...instead we hire a 100% risk that is an image nightmare.

Ive noticed this too. From my lifetime here I think the problem is that people from Louisiana, while good-hearted people who love life, arent the smartest, the most creative or spend much time thinking outside the box. They also are very emotional, fearful and panicky. Resistant to change and easily intimidated.

I think one of the main reasons nepotism runs rampant in every aspect of LA life is because being comfortable by surrounding yourself with people you know is more valued than excellence and success. This attitude is also what makes living here fun. Its very much the Northernmost Capital of the Caribbean. Cest La Vie. Its a double edged sword.

This is an outstanding assessment. Wish I could give it 1000 upvotes.

I would only add that it’s easier for good ole boy cronies to take advantage of them because of all this.

Frank Wilson is head and shoulders more qualified than Ed Orgeron.
12 wins in 2 years at the University of Freaking San Antonio..
vs
10 wins in 3 years at Ole Miss.

I agree with the heart of the OP. The people "up top" aren't going to be willing to roll the dice on "outsiders" until the culture changes. Until the people up top change, the culture will remain stagnant.

I would take Aranda or Wilson over O every single time. And I would be willing to bet most on here would as will. But Alleva and F King would never have such a thing.

Too broad of a statement. We have had excellent homegrown coaching talent through the years. The best example I can give you was Jerry Stovall. An intelligent man, great leader, very good recruiter that was only getting better. You wanna know why he wasn't a "hit", he was from Yankee Land, aka, North LA.

I could name at least 5 more, but I'm old and my memory fades with names...but all coached in the NFL if that lends any credibility to my statements.

Former Gov McKeithen literally threatened Bob Brodhead’s life in a public hearing for wanting to fire Stovall the year he went 0-8 in the SEC. Read “Sacked” by Brodhead.

Cool beans. To be honest Im not that tuned-in to local coaches it just seems from a cursory glance that there are very few X's and O's coaches at the pro and college level from LA. Seems most are from the Texass, the midwest and Pennsylvania. Lets check the SEC...

1. Bielema - IL
2. Satan - WV
3. Malzahn - TX
4. Smart - AL
5. Stoops - OH
6. Mullen - PA
7. Odom - OK
8. Muschamp - GA
9. Mason - AZ
10. Fisher - WV

4/10 from the midwest and TX and one from PA in the SEC

Big 10

1. Ferentz - MI
2. Durkin - OH
3. Harbaugh - OH
4. Dantonio - TX
5. Smith - TX
6. Allen - IN
7. Fleck - IL
8. Frost - NE
9. Fitzgerald - IL
10. Meyer - OH
11. Franklin - PA
12. Brohm - KY
13. Ash - IA
14. Chryst - WI

1/14 from SEC country. All from the midwest and TX except 1.

Anyone know of any LA born HC at P5 schools other than CEO?

It wasn't Saban who turned around LSU football; it was Emnert. He was the guy who recognized that Dean was an idiot AD, so he took personal command of the process. The legend has it that when he interviewed Saban he ordered Dean to make the hire, whatever it takes.

We need to start with the chancellor.

You absolutely nailed it, end of story. I always think of the opportunity cost as compared the cost of doing business. It takes money to make money, but more importantly it takes the right vision.

Compete for titles and playoff berths, and your culture problem is solved. Do we need Jedi masters in the president's and chancellor's offices? We're not asking to solve homelessness, we just want to go to Atlanta. I didn't hear about culture problems when the Tigers were in Omaha.

Win. More. Football. Games.

Couldn't agree more.

I saw in another thread where someone said O needs to find an OC he's comfortable with, and I had written a reply to it that I ended up erasing. Basically saying, comfort is a deceptive emotion. The comfortable decision is frequently not the one that benefits you the most, it's simply comfortable because it's familiar.

Some decisions should cause you anxiety, but you make that decision because in your mind you know it's the best one to make, not because it gives you the warm and fuzzies inside.
