Yea but on here everyone knows what we are going to run before we run it.We always run the same plays over and over, so they say.

As stated before. Crows got 20 different formations for 20 different plays. You can almost call the play before its run with him. There isn't much variance with the plays from each formation. Any good DC from an opposing team (ie Florida) can school his kids up on what to look for when LSU lines up in X package. Only one maybe 2 plays are going to be called from that formation so it's easy to have players stuff them. And if #10 is in the game at QB it's going to be a run

No need for all the creative formations, personnel packages, and trickeration IMO

i agree with what you are saying to some extent...Petrino said on his TV show that he knew what plays we were running based on personnel formations - doesnt sound too complex to me if a predominantly offensive minded coach can read us. i think we need more fewer formations with more plays to run from them.

The old school I formation has so many plays that can be run out of it. For example. Runs up middle, off tackle, sweep, fullback draw or pitch to outside halfback, throw to recievers who are on islands to take advantage of height/athletecism. Not to mention play action. We don't see this very often in Crowtons offenses and if we do, it's only one or two plays that the defense expects us to run out of it.

We just need a JR or SR QB. Last year and this year FR and SO QBS just don't cut it in the SEC or a BCS CHAMP. Next year JJ should be ok. FR and SO QBs just don't have the speed of the game figured out yet. Remember Tebow lost 3-4 games his SOPH year.

I read in a magazine(Texas Review)about Mike Leach at Texas Tech only has 8 plays that he runs out of different formations. He said if he adds a play he drops a play and he has been doing this since he worked with Hal Mumme.Keep it simple and less room for error.Maybe we could get our playmakers like R.Shepard more involved.

we need to run less formations and 'trickeration' and just master basic plays and then from those basic plays (looks) run multiple variations off of them as the season progresses and your mastery of the offense progresses.

think Gary Crowton's offense is too complex, and thus is the reason he hasn't had the success at LSU that we all had hoped we would have.

You are overthinking things and being reactionary. The issue isn't that the scheme is too complex. The issues have been the following:

1.) LSU has had significant, tangible issues over the last 2 years that have affected the offensive performance (OL and QB). Simplified offensive scheme or not, you still fail because of these issues.

2.) The Offensive coaching with respect to the OL has been poor, IMO. I will go to my grave believing that there was a disconnect between Crowton and Studrawa. Studrawa was either unwilling or unable to implement the blocking schemes that Crowton needed for his modified offensive attack. And Crowton was either unwilling, or unable to identify the problems and make sure that they were fixed.

Just because there is a problem does not mean that the solution is to have the pendulum swing in way the other direction. If all you do is simplify the offense, you get nowhere, IMO.

While I still stand by my OP, keep in mind that was posted

when it looked like Crowton was going to get the axe. The problem with Crowton is that his offense is great when you've got a very bright/experienced QB, his offense sucks when you don't have a very bright/experienced QB. It is this way because it is a very complex offense that tries to do many, many different things.

It remains to be seen if Jefferson will be a bright/experienced QB this year. I have a feeling things will start to click for Jefferson this year and he'll exceed all of our expectations.

Agreed. When you have the horses there is no need to run so many gimmick plays.
