This is exactly how major programs work. This is not fantasy football, Madden Football or anything else. Kelly does not deserve to be fired , he deserves to make a change on offense and then we see what happens.

You promote Baker and keep most of the staff.
Kelly is a sunk cost. Pay him off. 50M.
Double Baker’s salary and give him a 4-5 year deal. Keep most of the staff, get new OC OL and WR coaches.
That is about the cheapest way.
And would be about the same as keeping Kelly for 2 more years with new coaches.

What about the nil money?
It’s gonna be a lot less. Kelly sucks with talent this year.
And he didn’t do anything to fix it. Played a hurt nuss.
The guy needs to go after the 3rd loss.

I agree that's the most likely scenario and I agree that LSU isn't spending 57 million for him to not coach.
But I wonder if he's given much less resources if he decides to retire. I highly doubt the money guys are going to give him another $20 million dollar roster next year. I doubt they give him a blank check for the OC. LSU should start fundraising and saving the money.
If they do that then I think Kelly will negotiate a settlement and agree to part ways. It's going to be hell here for him when he's losing.

It's not going to happen and even if it did, it would be a bigger mess than we already have. Clean up the offense, keep recruiting and everyone needs to lower their expectations. College football is a mess and is hard to watch these days. You have to rebuild almost every year because of NIL and the portal. It's hard to develop a team in 6 months.
