quote:Now you're just full of shite. JJ was definitely bad in 2010 (insanely bad), but not at all in 2009. You'd have to go back to the prior century to find a worst running game. No running game since then has been that bad either. Yall want to talk about Nuss not having a running game, yall want to talk about a horrible OL. Worst OL i have ever seen came from that 2009 season yet he was 2nd in the country in redzone TD passes, only behind Kellen Moore. I remember that because of how crazy it was.
u wanna watch frustrating? go watch JJ in 2009 and 2010.

all LSU greats who won big games
And you want to compare seasons?
Flynn 56% 2400 pass yards 6.7 ypa 21 TD 11 int 215 rush yards 4 TD
Jefferson 61.5% 2160 pass yards 7.3 ypa 17 TD 7 int 170 rush yards 1 TD
Flynn was a 5th year senior coached by Jimbo Fisher for years then played in a Crowton offense brand new to the SEC. Jefferson was a true sophomore starting his first year with no QB coaching to speak of.
One had a run game that averaged 215 per game. The other had one that averaged 122 per game.
I love that Flynn was there to win us a national championship, but the revionist history on him always makes me laugh.
8/19 (42%) 70 yards 1 int vs South Carolina (28-16 win)
16/29 (55%) 258 yards 1 int 7 car -39 yards vs Tulane (win 34-9)
14/27 (52%) 144 yards 1 TD 1 int 30 rush yards vs UF (win 28-24)
17/35 (48%) 130 yards 1 TD 1 int 53 rush yards vs Kentucky (lose 34-37 3 OT) and yes many blame that on Les Miles not running Scott in the second half, I agfee, but Flynn did nothing to help.
17/25 168 yards 1 rush TD vs 3-9 Ole Miss (win 41-24)
Love the Bama win because F Bama, and he had an awesome downfield catch that i will always remember, but 54% 353 yards 3 TD 3 int

The expectations were different back then. We didn't come into the season thinking natty. We came into the season just wanting to be good and play in a decent bowl game. Hell, the best we had done recently was 10-3 a couple years prior with Rohan and winning the Sugar Bowl against Illinois.
LSU, by all accounts, should've lost to UGA in the regular season in 2003. The stat line was nasty, but that game had magic that year. It was one of the loudest games I've ever been at and it was constant. I remember when UGA tied it up with a screen pass that the WR took 90+ yds and the entire stadium went silent for about 30 seconds and then when nuts chanting for LSU and you could see the team go from being demoralized to jumping up and down and swinging towels. You can kind of see it when they come back from commercial break and Verne Lundquist makes a comment. Then Mauck to Green in the corner of the endzone and the rest is history. It's the first time I ever saw Saban run over to the student section after the game and give us a thumbs up. It was a special game and in my opinion, the tipping point for LSU to get back to being a consistent threat for a natty. Sometimes you have to win ugly and LSU wasn't readily able to do that in the years prior to 2003.

He was a steady game manager rather than a superstar but I don’t recall a lot of frustration in those days.

2001 Comes off the bench and wins the MVP SEC Championship Game
2002 Goes 5-1 before season ending injury
2003 13-1 SEC and National Championships
18-2 as a starter, two SEC Championships and National Championship.
Is he the greatest walk on ever?

I left the 2002 game against Miss St and said, “we’ll never win a title with THAT guy”. He was 4-12 for 52 yds and 36 of those were on one TD pass.
Yes, he had some clunkers, but you never felt like he would lose you the game in 2003. He was clutch when you needed it.
The epitome of that was the winning TD to Skyler green against Ga. He stood in, let that play develop and took one helluva shot.

No. We hadn’t won anything significant in so long that we were just glad to win and didn’t gripe about every little thing.
In 2003, late in the fourth quarter LSU was up 10 to 3 and was putting the game to bed with a great drive. Mauck picked up a first down at the 15 yard line but fumbled. A couple of plays later Georgia scored a 93 yard touchdown on a screen pass to tie it. Mark Richt commended the stadium after the game saying the LSU crowd actually got louder supporting the team before the next kickoff. Mauck to Skyler Green for the lead. Corey Webster iced it with a nice pick.
Different era. Buddy Songy said once LSU fans got used to filet mignon they didn’t want manda sausage any more.

No. The game was different then and the 03 team was built around ball control and defense. Mauck wasn't flashy but he didn't need to be.

Mauck was a game manager and fit what they needed. Not too frustrating overall. Different style of football across most of the country back then. Mauck bailed out LSU in the 2001 SEC title game when Davey got hurt. Mauck kept Oklahoma in the 2003 BCS title game because he threw 2 INTs and lost a fumble.
But had he been on the 2004 team, LSU may have had a shot to win it all against because QB inexperience and limitations hurt that team. Same way they tanked in ‘02 when he got hurt against Florida.
LSU wasn’t reliant on great offense to win with Mauck. They could score points and pass some, but they relied on a strong running game and mistake-free QB play. The defense was the dominant unit on those 2002-04 teams, except for the second half of ‘02 when Damien James got kicked off the team. Losing Mauck and James, both in October, really caused that ‘02 team to crater in November.

All of Saban’s quarterbacks sucked until he finally switched to the spread.

Yeah we had the #1 scoring defense in the country. Makes an offense’s job pretty easy

Look at 2002 season. Started 6-1 with him then the wheels came off after.

Yeah he was a lot better than Marcus Randall. That doesn’t mean Mauck was awesome. Randall was horrible
