Will our new coach be forced to retain him? If so, that’s not good. If not, kind of weird that Kelly had to keep him but not the new coach.

The o-line hasn't been good since 2019... Decent @ pass blocking a couple of years & awful @ run blocking since BK has arrived

Idk but it seems very weird that the sticking point for Woodward would be the BK wanted to fire Brad Davis. I can’t figure out why that would be an issue.

My theory (which means absolutely nothing)

Woodward went into the meeting looking for anything that would start a fight and this was the first topic that triggered one.

Are you suggesting Brad Davis and then maybe Frank and Corey later were admin choices and not BK choices? How about Hankton? Would that explain why Denbrock left?

The first three names you mention were all driven by the admin, BOS, Collis Temple. Not an opinion at all

Denbrock was told to go find another job to elevate Sloan in an attempt to lock in Bryce underwood

not trying to argue for BK, but we had 4 RBs that combined for 1500 yards and 5.5 yards per carry in 2022. We didn’t have a bell cow that year, but we were a very strong running team. Goodwin’s injury stunk because he would have been that bell cow I believe.

From Denbrock himself, he liked it in BR and was planning to stay. As he was waiting for the board to approve his contract, ND made him a great offer. Had Denbrock stayed, I believe Nuss would have developed to a Heisman and the offense would be high scoring.

Woodward concerned about the optics of firing a black coach

Also Woodward is a devout Democrat

So basically, those hires were forced on Kelly and eventually he checked out as a result to force the buyout and we have this year. It seems this has happened before at LSU with other coaches. Not the big buyout, but leaving because of the meddling politics.

Didn’t something similar happen with Les wanting to keep Chavis but Alleva didn’t support it?

Have we got any definitive truth on the rumor that Kelly wanted to fire Davis and Woodward didn't?

To be fair, Davis was recruiting lights out at the time Kelly came on board. I think the idea there was keep Davis to keep Will Campbell and Emery Jones locked up.

I get that maybe you tell Kelly he has to keep Davis at the time he’s hired.

But after year 1 BK should have had the authority to choose his own staff for better or worse.

It’s being misunderstood.

Woodward said fire Sloan, Kelly said no but I’ll fire Brad Davis. Woodward said no.

That got misconstrued to Woodward not wanting to fire Brad Davis.

ETA on second thought I doubt that’s the case

I think its far more likely that Brad was considered a coup to take in the first place and he was the lead recruiter on Campbell and Jones.

BK had all the authority to hire his own staff. He hired his first defensive staff and wasted Jayden Daniels with that staff and defense. He cleaned house so he could have fired Davis if he wanted to. He can’t use that as an excuse.
