Up close, I dont have a problem with the toonces logo. But when you see it on TV next to the other college logos, it gets lost. Like said before, the background is distracting, too many shadows and outlines. It needs to be more simple.

how has no one mentioned this. It's simply just been our logo and there has been nothing wrong with it. it's been proven traditional is better. that's why teams like bama and penn state stick with their ancient uniforms and why people buy the "vintage" looking clothing and logos etc.

Toonces makes us look like a CUSA school. I cannot believe LSU is still using this as their logo! It's a disgrace!

Because in comparision, it's a far better executed design.
Look...Phoenix Design has done some good work. Goggle their company and you can see some for yourself. But most of their collegiate logos look like dogshit, and someone from LSU should have seen that and run before turing over something as important as branding to them. BTW...I think they like the idea of having paws coming over the text...

A really good Tiger logo is difficult. Try and find even a small group that REALLY look good. they aren;t out there. Surprisingly, one of those was LSU's old circular Tiger head. What LSU should have done if they wanted to modernize the look of the logo was to ask for a revamp of THAT logo, not to though out th design entirely and come back with what looks remarkably like what you'd expect to see on the side of some Junior High School's Band trailer. And given some of Phoenix's lower divison clients, that's about what you'd expect.
LSU got a cookie-cooker, free clipart looking logo...and paid a shitload for it. Nice work!

At some point the credit/blame has to get laid at the feet of the Athletic Department as I'm guessing it wasn't the chancellor who woke up ne day and decided the athletic department needed new logos.
And look...the logo they claimed to be replacing at the time (2002) was this one...which did suck.
The biggest problem with the "new" logo is that the folks in marketing at LSU will tell you to your face that the new design has been a big plus in terms of sales of LSU merchandise. What they fail to take into account is that the logo was introduced in the Spring of 2002 with LSU's football team coming off their first SEC Title in over a decade, and the program would go on to win the NG in 2003 and again in 2007. OF COURSE PEOPLE BOUGHT THINGS!! What they dodn;t realize is how many MORE things would likely have been bought during this time frame had there not been a VERY vocal (even if small minority) of LSU fans who simply refused to buy anything with that logo on it. FWIW, to this day I've never purchased anything with the new LSU image logo on it. I am, however, a fan of the Geaux Font (when used ONLY as LSU's text logo...not when used all over the damn place lessening it's effectiveness as a logo.)

College football, especailly Southern College Football is about Tradition. Universities change their logos or uniforms to create new interest in a losing or dormanant program. Look at the tradition powers of college football...USC, Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, etc. they havent changed a thing. Toonces has to go, i havent bought a toonce item and will not buy one. For sales of merchandise i can see modifing a logo...but leave the uniforms alone...They are L S U
