Yeah, it's weird how so many people seem happy to be pissed at him.
I do question whether he has the mental makeup to be a consistent Friday night guy. He's got the stuff, obviously. But it's 1 thing to do it with the juice and energy of the post-season and Omaha fueling you. Can he channel it every week to give consistently good outings. Can he be on on a March Friday in Fayetteville? Or a cold February night in Baton Rouge against an OOC team. Or an opening day Friday at 2 in the afternoon.

Obviously, we won't need him at his absolute best until May through the end of the postseason. But we need him to be consistently really good to help put us in a position to make a postseason run. We can't afford to lose him mentally for a big part of the season like we did last year. He seems like a season could get away from him in the same way a game can. But he battled back last year and came up huge when we had to have him. Hopefully Jay knows how to handle him psychologically to keep him from veering too far off the track. I think next week will be big for him, and I expect him to put today behind him and come out and shove.

But I don't think it's unreasonable to wonder if maybe he's not the guy best suited to be the Friday guy. He may be more comfortable going in Game 2 or 3. Loooooooong way to go, though. I believe in Hurd, and I trust Jay will figure out how to best put the puzzle pieces together to where we're playing our best baseball come April and May.
