Vitello says you are crazy if you define college baseball success by going to Omaha

He is wrong and correct at the same time.
I really want LSU to get back to winning the SEC regular season.
But championships in Omaha > than anything else.

Do you think it's always going to be this way?
I mean it's pretty clear Vitello can build a program. I'm not sure why so many here try to slight him.

Well, we don't like him. I'm going to shite on him as long as I can. Unfortunately, that may be about 2 weeks. But until then, he hasn't won a CWS.

He seems like he has chilled out a lot in all honesty.

What year is it?

Vitelli is a loud mouth egotistical ahole whose pride needs to fall.
That’s biblical.
That’s biblical.

If you're sitting around judging others, you may want to consult the good book again.

He’s a little smug and arrogant, but I can respect that because so am I.
Still hope he loses, but I like that message and can tell he’s pretty invested emotionally in this game.

...and, if we need a coach in the next few years, then I would love for us to explore him (again) as an option.

If, big if he were to win it all he would have exactly the same amount of championships as Jay with about 5 years less experience as a head coach.

What was the takeaway from that?

That there is a lot more to it than Omaha or bust.
As it relates to LSU, there are a lot of things that I would consider successful related to the season even though it didn’t end up in Omaha. Listening to Jay’s postgame press conference, he felt the same.
Heck, the Will Hellmers situation alone. How could
that not be defined as a success?

This is not at all the takeaway from this video. Different programs have different standards because there is obvious disparity in college athletics. Evansville did not have a failure of a season because by their standards, it was the most successful season in program history. Anyone who has ever actually played sports should understand that there is success outside of winning a championship. I'm not talking about participation trophy nonsense, just talking life lessons. Boys learning how to be men, even in the face of falling short of the ultimate goal. That's what TV was trying to say, and I am a big TV hater, so it's hard to give him his deserved props here

Sure it is. He set it up as a response to the question the day before of “if Evansville beats Tennessee in next game would it have all been for naught?”

I hated the attitude of Tenn. and Coach V. But I’ve heard him speak several times when I thought he made good sense. I happen to agree with his statements on success and I thought some of his other comments were admirable . He seems to have calmed down some and appears to be maturing. If he keeps going like this I might have to start liking him. Oh no!

quote:You're still operating under an assumption that Tennessee losing to Evansville would have been a failure of a season. Maybe that's true from a fan perspective since fans only care about wins and losses, but TV is saying it doesn't carry much weight from a team perspective. You may disagree with that sentiment, but he's right
