Said this at multiple times during the game. He thinks it will fire up his team, but that crowd will go nuts if Vitello gets tossed. It will ultimately have the opposite effect that Tony thinks.

You’re exactly right. He was yelling something like “give him the ball, give him the ball” as if taking the ball was some sign of weakness. It was an attempt to show strength when they had none

Hold the rope should happen organically and starts with leadership. Great example there of trying to force it.

His whole team looks like a bunch of pricks. No way that’s appealing to the masses RE: recruiting. I would punch their 2nd baseman in the face if I had to be around him for a full season

Calling Vitello a douche is one of life's finer pleasures.

Dollander was probably frustrated at being taken out and Vitello was reminding him to be a good team-mate. Nothing sinister to see here.
as much as I dislike Tenn baseball. There was nothing happened last night to support it

Eventually this will catch up with Vitello, recruits don't want to play for that type of personality in regards to baseball. May work for football and has for Nick Saban but not as common with baseball

It worked for Skip but that was 30 years ago. Hate to use the "kids these days" line, but it's true. Plus with social media and everything being recorded. If a coach is an arse to a player, everyone sees or hears it. Instead of it being recalled in an interview 10 years later.

Don't blame the kid. I am the one who thought he could pitch

Also, coaches always taught me that passing the ball to the next guy was a show of teamwork and belief in the next guy!

If he was our coach, you’d be saying:

“It’s his rule to hand the ball off as a good sport.

Pitcher didn’t do that and Coach V had to enforce the doctrine.

Pitcher knows this but was emotional so V had to match the emotion and take him down for a second.

Alls good and we will win the series. “

Glad we have Jay Johnson. But if V was our coach, most would defend that, last night.

We’d be in a defend-coach mode.

He does suck and I will always upvote that but I think holding even your best players accountable, particularly when the chips are down isn't the best example of him being a douche.

I always wonder how offended used car salesmen get when people use that turn of phrase. Like come on man, they are just trying to make a living.

That was on the player, not the coach. He was coming out whether he liked it or not.
