I dunno .. what does paying some washed up old fart that had never reached the final four before he got here almost $1 million a year to not bother to tell his team "don't let Candace Parker dribble the ball the length of the court with only five seconds left" have to do with championship basketball ??

He is old, tired, and coasting at this point. The drop in the level of play is significant; LSU has gone from a perennial Final Four team to a slightly above average team. And that is really all the administration really wants...a decent team and a winning record. There is no real "want" to put together a dominant WBB program now (sorry). The attitude reflected in some of the posts in this thread also runs through the administration.

If you'll pay a KING'S RANSOM, don't hire a COURT JESTER!
If you'll fund a program, at the level of WBB, demand positive marketing benefits.
You cannot buy the publicity of sucess, so trumpeted by the media.
TODAY: Under Van Da Joker, LSU WBB managed to bounce up and down, like an oscilloscope gone mad! He does all that "redneck schmoozing," and his ridiculous quips grow OLD! But I think he'll be allowed two more years, and let's hope they hire an ambitious/competent/motivated/clued-in young HC. The choice should match the culture, providing there is competency and a good resume.

The man has the credentials and has done a decent job. Don't you think that recruiting was hurt somewhat by past indiscretions in the program? We do need to recruit quickness and a pure shooter.

end of the lsu wbb season is always a real bummer for me. hot chicks in shorts running up & down the court getting all sweaty, and now it's gone.

This topic and the response to it makes me wonder how many of the participants on this site are of the female gender. I have been to at least one contest of most of the sports that LSU sponsors or did sponsor except golf soccer, and rugby(if they still have a team). Step up and be counted you female ranters!!!!

one cool guy so I could really give a damn whether or not he wins another game or not.
You wouldn't at least be proud if they were to win a NC in BB or SB for it would do for the school and the state?

Doesn't matter who the coach is....never will be able to recruit the players it takes to win a Final 4 Game....couldn't do it with Augustus/Fowles....the players you need go to UConn and Tennessee every year. LSU and everybody else plays second fiddle to those 2

quote:Would rather be playing 2nd fiddle than 4th, 5th or worse. I got to watch Fowles shut Candace Parker down a few times and that was fun. LSU took quite a few wins from Tennessee these last 7 years or so. We may not have won the big one but we were as close as we've ever been and won a couple SEC regular season championships in the process - a pretty big thing in women's basketball in our conference. Why wouldn't we try to get back to that level and get the win. If we can knock off tennessee during the regular season we stand a good chance of doing it in the tournament. These last 2 years we haven't been close and we're getting worse. Time for Van to go, he's bringing the program down and in a hurry.

Well, I'll be the first to be disappointed about the past two seasons. But, the thing that everyone on this thread seems to be ignoring is this.......
Our last final four team, two seasons ago started FIVE SENIORS. Which means the ENTIRE STARTING LINEUP had to be replaced. Additionally, we had a total of 8 players graduate from that team. The team was DECIMATED by graduation. Last season we played MOSTLY FRESHMEN and still finished 20-11.
This season, we had ONE SENIOR and mostly freshmen and sophomores and finished 21-10. We also pushed the ACC champions to the brink of elimination on THEIR HOME COURT.
Like I said, I'm disappointed with how we've finished the past two seasons................but I'm also realistic. Now, if this team finishes with a similar record next season, then it will DEFINITELY be time to panic. But under the circumstances, I can't see the administration changing coaches with all of that being taken into account......................like it or not.
And yes, we have two big post players coming in next season (both are 6'4") and a very good shooting guard. So, all is not lost. We don't have a Seimone Augustus or Sylvia Fowles type player coming in, but you don't need that to win the SEC or make the final four in women's college basketball.

Please, just shut up. Van was not making $5 million dollars, per year or for the length of his contract. And the rest of the crap you post is jibberish.

She signed with Nicholls.

I didn't see the "point" in front of the 5 M.
That guy is notorious for his ridiculous posts about Van and women's basketball. He had a thread once with 3 inaccuracies former players that I and others had to correct him on. I think he is just mad Van didn't give him candy before the game one night.

I know. Why was she not offered by LSU? She is a helluva good point guard, IMO
