Urban will stay on his aspirin and make the best out of this team in Jacksonville.
This is the reason he accepted the Jaguars. They're a team no one fears, his project here is to change that. And he will, if he sticks around long enough.

Napier can be great but I don’t know if he’s the right guy for LSU right now

LSU should only consider head coaches that have proven themselves at the P5 level college football.

I think Urban would do well here. Like others have said, I doubt he lasts long enough to set LSU up for the future. The biggest thing I wanted to point out, though, is that that article doesn’t paint UM in a positive light at all. Those are some concerning tendencies, and I’m not sure how great that would go over here in a program where players need confidence more than ever. Just my $0.02.

People saying they don’t want Urban due to longevity are insane. He will set us up for a decade. The sweepstakes for Urban will be between USC and LSU starting very shortly. May the best man win.

They must measure decades shorter in Ohio and Florida.

Agreed. Let’s get a good coach for the first time in 20 years then worry about longevity.

That article was written by Jason La Canfora so it's very likely that nothing in that article is even true or at best some greatly exaggerated version of the truth

I think the only reason he is coaching in the NFL is because at Jacksonville, he has complete control. From a health standpoint, I don’t think he can withstand the daily pressure in the NFL and multitasking as coach and GM. Once he is done with this gig, and it probably will be sooner than later, I don’t believe he has the desire to go coach at LSU or any other school. If anything, he would go back to being a college game day analyst IMO.

Urban couldn't handle LSU fans. He would be in a straight jacket and into the funny farm after three games.

I get it, but that leaves you with a pretty small pool of potential hires. Coaches who are currently having success at the P5 level (meaning, for the sake of argument, competing for conference titles) are not likely to leave. Even Jimbo didn’t leave FSU until it was pretty clear that they were going downhill.

Coaches with a history of success at the P5 level, but who are not currently having success, are likely not the candidates you’re looking for. That pool includes folks like Mack Brown and Les Miles, who are pretty clearly past their prime.

So who does that leave you with? Well, for starters - guys who took NFL jobs and aren’t having great success. So Urban this year, Previously guys like Chip Kelly and once upon a time, Saban. You don’t get those guys unless the timing is perfect.

It also leaves coaches at “lesser” P5 schools that are starting to compete at a higher level. For example, Mullen when he left MSU for UF. This is going to make up the bulk of your potential hiring pool, and I would argue that there’s not a lot of difference between these guys and G5 coaches. If anything, you can at least see whether G5 coaches have sustained success over an extended period of time.
