I know Devin White was a better athlete and all-around linebacker, but I feel like Beckwith was the best pure Mike that we’ve had since 2000. He made a ton of tackles and plugged running lanes as well as any linebacker that I’ve seen at LSU. I remember the 2014 Bama game when it was absolutely night and day when Beckwith was in the game or when he was out. Bama moved the ball instantly and moved down the field as soon as Welter went in. That’s the biggest contrast that I can remember seeing when a player was taken out of the lineup.

Was Devin White even classified as a Mike?

In the scheme he was a rover but he was definitely an inside linebacker. 3-4 vs 4-3.

To OP's point, I think both Devin White and Jacob Phillips were better (Devin more so, he's the best LB to ever play at LSU) than Beckwith and I loved me some Kendell Beckwith.

Phillips is very underrated IMO.

Possibly. With the caveat that he was thrown into the fire by necessity and took his lumps early. He had to learn on the job.

This doesn’t make any sense. Also Devin was bigger, faster, stronger and more productive than Beck

2014 Bama game

Still don’t understand how we lost that game after Beckwith recovered Yeldon’s fumble. 2012 was a worse loss because it would have likely put us in the title game vs ND, but the way we lost in 2014 was unbelievable after recovering a fumble on the 10 yard line with a minute to go

You could argue that Kevin Minter was better.

We had a guy named Bradie James who was solid in college and a long pro career

You might be right too.

I’m not 100% sure that Duke wasn’t better than Kendall in 2016

Beckwith spent the 2013 season at DE and was moved after the season to MLB and spent the entire 2014 off-season at LB. His first significant playing time came after Auburn jumped up big on LSU and it was obvious how shitty Welter was doing. That's hardly being thrown into the fire. There were a bunch of other LBs like Lamar Louis and Ronnie Feist in contention for that role as well, playing next to Kwon.

Minter definitely had the best LB performance I have seen with 20 tackles in a loss vs Florida in 2012

I am not sure Kendall was even the best Beckwith to play middle linebacker at LSU. For my money I will take Derry.

This is moronic. The other takes on this topic are legitimate arguments, but this right here is arguing just for the sake of arguing. Darry Beckwith was pretty middle-of-the-road. He went undrafted and didn’t even make an NFL roster. I still remember Knowshon Moreno outrunning him in open field in the 2008 UGA game, and Moreno did NOT have great speed.
