Again, the NCAA is a nonprofit. They had $1.17 billion in expenses because the vast majority of their revenue was distributed back to universities

thanks for proving my point that people don't even read the articles.

a hair over half (51%) of that revenue goes back to schools.
which is a far cry from "the vast majority".

If he is not right, what recourse does the team have?

In most instances, a contract is bilateral. NIL is such an unmitigated mess.

These need to be written contracts

I agree it needs to be contractual but jesus christ. Contract negotiations, practice holdouts, collective bargaining, salary caps. We are on a downhill slope. At least before we could pretend that the kids had a love for the state and the school that we pull for.

Anyway. College football was fun while it lasted.

No they shouldn't, since Pandoras box was opened a school shouldn't honor what they promised to the kid and pay him, if not frick em!
I get it, and I agree with you as well. I'm oldschool and believe you should stay home and play for your home states school or play for the team you grew up loving. Either way stay and play out your 3 or 4 years and be loyal! It's hard to be a diehard fan when roster turnover and kids not playing for this reason or that reason.

Hester reported UNLV has made a statement and they said all NIL obligations have been met. He thought his value went up.

t's not really about the average American and what they can name about what team, IMO.

um, yeah.
that's exactly what determines the monetary value of someone's Name, Image, or Likeness.

the more people that recognize you by your Name, or your Image, or your likeness, the more money you can generate off of it.

It's really that simple.
If you are someone that everyone knows, you can make millions off of sponsorships.
If you're somebody that only your local area knows, you're going to max out at doing small local commercials.

Dr Pepper paid Bryce Young a frickton to be in their "Fansville" commercials because everybody knew who he was.
Sluka isn't getting those offers anytime soon because nobody has any idea who the frick he was until this article was written.

NCAA’s primary source of revenues is MBB. They don’t receive revenues from football. They don’t host a football tournament or have football tv rights.

I’m not sure why you even brought the ncaa up.

This seems like the most likely explanation- they agreed to pay him x, but then winked and said of course if you play well that could go up to 2x or 3x! He took that as a guarantee and thinks that they're welching on him

you have it backwards.
they have more money because they are spending more.

Bigger Stadium, better facilities, fancier travel, etc., etc. attracts better talent.
Better talent draws more interest.
More interest draws more money.

If players are going to be paid directly, that has to come with rules and regulations like contracts and minimum commitment periods

This I 100% agree with.

Hammer meet nail.

The Athletic Dept. do not have shareholders, they aren’t there to turn a profit. Their primary goal is to win.

The more money they make the more they spend. They don’t pay dividends or disperse profits to owners.

They hire more, they give raises, they build bigger and better. For years they only had to pay scholarship money to athletes. Now with NIL things are changing. The players see what’s going on and want a cut. Who can blame them?

Wonder what school reached out to up the ante? Obviously there is some type of solicitation/tampering going on here, but does cfb even has rules on tampering? Wonder if the big fish school he transfers to will get reprimanded in any way. Such a shiteshow product right now

If the school has proof they are telling the truth, I 100% support the NCAA denying the kid a redshirt.

Couldn’t disagree more. No matter where these kids come from, how much they’re paid or how long they stay, LSU football is still LSU football and I’ll always be a diehard supporter of that alone.

Here’s my biggest take away.

What if someone just bet UNLV to make the playoffs? If there was information being withheld about the security of the roster then that’s almost fraud for the gamblers.
