We bought beer/water several times Saturday. Every transaction on my credit card is higher than the cost of the drinks. I assume someone added tips without permission, or is tax and/or credit card fee added?

ETA: Finally found info stating that listed concession prices are “pre-tax”. Still appears that we have a tip or two added….

A lot of places have a 4% fee added to CC transactions.

ETA: that’s the fee the bank charges to use the machine. So businesses started passing that fee to consumers.

tax is added, I think. Shouldn't be a tip unless you added it

Should not be an extra fee here because they do not take cash. Charge should be as posted

you shouldn't be adding a fee if cash payment isnt an option.

Maybe the case. It’s just happening at more places.

Businesses are starting to add a credit card processing fee - much like governmental agencies like the DMV has done for years. Not sure if it’s relegated to restaurants or not, but I noticed it a few nights ago when I was presented the bill at dinner.

Isn’t it also against the terms of service for most credit card companies to pass their fee to the vendor on to customers?

The ability to surcharge only applies to credit card purchases, and only under certain conditions. U.S. merchants cannot surcharge debit card or prepaid card purchases. Gas stations CANNOT charge you more for the gas because you use a card, especially a debit or pre-paid card.

I noticed this at the beer stations. Advertised price is $10 but there’s a $1 “tax” when you complete the transaction. I was wondering if they messed with the system to get themselves tips for every drink.

I noticed the same thing at Miss State game, the counter lady actually took the machine, after I put my card in, punched a few buttons and the final charge was a few dollars higher. I did get a glimpse of a tip screen before she took it. It was only a few bucks so I said nothing. But they should let you decide how much YOU want to tip.

yep. bought a $3.00 peanut at a credit only stand and the ring up was $3.30.

I sit in sec 240.
while we complaining about concessions, the fact that they changed our stands to beverages only is dumb. Have to go to other areas of the stadium this year for food.
