Slaughter is the only real option at 1st right now isn't he?
You could, in theory, move Deich there and open an outfield spot--not that there's an outfielder who is raking.
If you don't move Deich, you could put Romero's Zardon-like iron glove there when healthy, I suppose.
Finally, you could go back to the future with this cat:

Slaughter is 10 times worse and where are the people bitching about him every day?
Speaking of Slaughter, has anyone else noticed when he's getting into his batter's stance, he squints big time while looking for the pitch? My wife noticed it on Saturday and made a comment if he might need glasses/contact lenses.
Just a silly observation that might partly explain why he has struck out way more times than any other LSU batter.
ETA: Clown beat me to it.

no way you move Slaughter from 1b. Wish there were a way to know how many bad throws he has saved already this season.

4) UF still has terrible fans and fan support. It's laughable.
Well, to be fair, their basketball team was playing the in Sweet 16 Friday night and for a chance to go to the Final Four Sunday afternoon. The stakes were probably a bit higher than just the second SEC series of the year.
LSU is the exception to the rule in fan support. Outside of the Mississippi schools and maybe Ark and South Carolina, very few people really care about college baseball.

they need to let Chris Reid get in a rythym .. was clutch last season and puts the bat on the ball.

I'm talking hypothetically. I wouldn't move him, either.

I would't have a problem with Beau there. I think I would rather see Woley but I really wouldn't have a problem with any one at DH that is part of the revolving door now just wish PM would leave one in there to have a chance to get in a rhythm.

I'm not on the Beau hate train either.
Yeah, he flails about sometimes. But he's also put together some tremendous at bats. The one that he eventually grounded out to the pitcher on in Saturday's game: Jordan, Be. grounded out to p (2-2 SKFFBBF). He looked absolutely foolish on the first swing of the at bat, but fought like crazy the rest of it. The result wasn't good, but an 8 pitch at bat is pretty nice. And shows improvement from a swing an miss standpoint.
I know it's only one data point, but that at bat really stuck with me.

No offense to Fla fans but they were playing two pretty big basketball games on Fri and Sun that conflicted with the baseball games.

This is what drives me nuts about him. He will swing at a 1st pitch breaking ball out of the zone and then take a cock high fastball for strike two. However, he proceeds to battle for 5 or 6 pitches almost every time.
He has me questioning WTF he's doing in the lineup and then commending him all in the same AB.

quote:The only time sabermetrics shows bunting is the right play is a runner on 2nd with no outs and you need only 1 run.
I know there are MLB stats out there that show this is one of the few times where percentages support bunting every time
No excuse not to bunt in that situation

Wrong approach
Any player can have one bad game
While I somewhat agree DH is a different animal. It really takes a different person to play that position day in and day out. It's a skill all on its own. You don't have the field to take your mind off of your at bats. A bad plate appearance or a couple can snowball very quickly. It takes a person with a lot of mental toughness. Beau has that. He's been benched from the field and at DH before and it seems to not bother him. He still gives max effort every at bat. Sometimes too much effort and is too aggressive. Romero seemed to struggle last year as a DH only. That's not a knock on him it's just some guys can't do it.

He's been getting pinch hit looks, which I can only assume is to prep him for the post season.

That's a pretty good summary.

I think something should be said about our bullpen keeping us in the game Sunday. In my opinion we have some reliable arms out the pen now. Between Bain, Beck, Reynolds, Newman, and Gilbert, that's really not a bad group of arms coming out the pen. I realize Newman is hurt right now, but when he comes back, you have a group of arms that have established themselves in the pen.
I don't think enough can be said about Beck and the way he has pitched coming out the pen. He has been nothing short of phenomenal.

I'm losing whatever faith I had in Reynolds. Bain has done very well in the spots we needed him. He's the long relief guy. Using him isn't always a good thing because it means our starter struggled, but he's been great.

I still have some faith in Reynolds even thought he didn't pitch this weekend. I would have like to see him come in instead of Bush, but I understood why Bush came in.

So much so that the other head coach accused him of doctoring the ball for the first two outs, including one strike out, that he got. Then after the cheating accusation he blew up and walked the next batter and PM took him out.
