I cringe when it works, because i know that means we are gonna run a few more extra throughout the next weeks worth of games.
You think it discourages him from running it when it doesn't work? That's adorable.

. But the way PM does it early in games with some of our hottest players at the plate is infuriating.
I don't agree with Mainieri using the hit and run as much as he does, but I'm sure he thinks he knows better about how I should do parts of my job than I do, too.

I mean, 15 years ago, major league managers thought they knew more than all these fantasy baseball geeks and computer nerds, and now most of these teams hire these guys for this reason. The cubs just won a world series using sabermetrics and advanced stats

I remember it working very well for Duplantis this year vs UNO. Helped get him out of his slump. I don't like him still using it for Duplantis when he's our hottest hitter taking away his judgement ability. I'm also not a fan of doing it with our slow catchers running the bases...

Which brings up a point several of us who sit in our section have been debating, who is the slowest runner on the team this year?

I think it's Chris Reid but others disagree. You?

Because of his ankle injury or even when he's healthy?

I agree Romero is the slowest right now. The last time he batted in a game at the Box and he hit a ground ball he was running to first base like he had blown a tire.

Why do you think they acquired those specific pitchers?

bunting in the last inning or extras when you need just one run is statistically the correct call.

You mean other than the fact that a run expectancy is greater to not bunt than it is to bunt?

Bunting in that situation is not the statistical play to success that you are implying and not bunting isn't some kind of poor baseball decision. In the 9th when you need a run to continue, you don't sacrifice an out to get more into scoring position when you are already in scoring position. It's just baseball common sense and the stats I pointed out show it.

Run expectancy is basically the same as expected value of a decision and is not the same thing as the probability of scoring one or more runs. The latter is what you are more concerned with in this particular situation.

We'd have to play 2 on either Friday or Saturday. A Thursday-Saturday series can't be extended to Sunday.
