Even so. That was a stupid arse play call

In the red zone- absolutely. Even as an RPO, there are better sets that would give us a better look if the read is to give to the back.

This play has been successful outside the 20s getting Thomas the ball as the back. At least as successful as any running play has been this season. But unless it would have been used as a pure play action pass to get the defense focused on Thomas since we always hand it off in this set, it was a terrible call as a 2 pt play. Even with decent blocking it would have been tough for Thomas to score that.

Adams does not belong on a D1 roster.

Yes, I did not like the play call at all.

But there is no doubt that the offensive line play left an awful lot to be desired in the loss to the Ole Miss Rebels.

I think it was all on 71. Thompson did what he was supposed to do. Adams had an easy job, which was to influence the edge rusher out just a little. He didn’t even touch him. Sharp did his job. The play was for the RB to slant left, and that is what Sharp was blocking for. Since Adams let the edge go clean, the RB cut back to the right, otherwise Sharp’s block would have been set up nicely.

Had Adams blocked his guy, we would have had the back against the two DBs. The RB would have had to beat one of them. I’d give him a 50/50 shot. Still don’t like the play.

ETA: The way the DBs reacted quickly makes me think they were in zone. Perhaps our coaches thought they’d be in man on the goal line. I think the play would have worked if 71 blocked and Ole Miss was in man.

A 6’7 Tight End was the play there.

Why even consider anything else?

Sad. The whole was there. Adams and Sharp allowed their guys to get into the backfield.
Adams blocked down in the wrong guy and it didn’t occur to him that he had no help to his left? That’s coaching. Plain and simple. Sharp didn’t even try. Like he wanted no part of the physicality. The former can be fixed with more film study and coaching. The latter can be fixed by parking his arse on the bench.
