Tyrann and Cecil Collins dumbed up their college careers

Tyrann Mathieu absolutely should’ve won the 2011 Heisman Trophy.
He was electric and literally all anyone could talk about during the 2011 season, and he put up performance after performance against SEC competition. Whereas RG3 was running circles around historically terrible Big12 defenses.
I think part of it was Les not wanting to promote TM7 for the Heisman because he didn’t want to “put one player above the team” or something like that.
Either way, Tyrann had a better case than Manti Te’o did in 2012

The suspension surely slowed down the momentum but he was truly one of the most exciting guys I ever watched!

True highway robbery not to give it to him. That season should be the definition of winning the heisman.

That season was nuts, every time the other team punted you felt like we were going to score, every time we punted you thought we were going to pin them inside the 5 if not force a fumble and score, every time we were on defense you thought we were going to score. Every time we were on offense, well.....

True, and he would have won it in 2012 too.
And we would have likely won a NC. Kicking him off was retarded. Blame Alleva and Alexander for us having pot rules 10x more strict than Bama.

It was remarkable how many big plays he made.
There were so many big plays you knew you were watching something special. I kept saying there was no way he could keep taking over games and he always found a way.

I honestly hate how the Heisman has just become a de facto "best QB" award. It's supposed to be the nation's "most outstanding player." TM7 fit that bill.
The only QB since Cam that I felt truly should have won it under the actual merits of the Heisman was Manziel. Love him or hate him, that kid was fun to watch, and same went for Tyrann.

his punt returns versus Arkansas and Georgia = Heisman

It goes like this
QB with best stats
Or Best offensive player on the best team.
Tyrann Matthieu was a freak and changed almost every game he played in.

Two things kept him from winning it:
1: Midseason drug suspension
2. If he had scored on the 2nd punt return against Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.
BOTH of those and he would have won it !

Mathieu might have gone down as one of the greatest college defensive players in SEC history if he had played more than 2 years. He was also suspended for the Auburn game in 2011 too.

I think we win the natty in 2012 if he would have been on the team. I think we would have beaten Bama in Tiger Stadium (we should have), we likely would have been against ND in BCS title game, and would have smoked them too

I agree.... but he may have not been the BEST player, however there was nobody close as far as a difference maker.....
