re: Two Former College QBs Give Nuss Positive Reviews for Play at Vandy

He is, and so is the offensive line. He was not as bad as he’s been in previous games, but we saw how the QB run game was the difference maker at Vandy. Nuss had several opportunities to change the game by taking off. Everyone is going to look at PFF, but it’s not like PFF is going to take away points because he didn’t take a scrambling opportunity. He also made some pretty bad checks at the LOS and bad decisions in the RPO game.
Ask Lenoris Sellers how easy it is to play QB with a bad OL?

I wonder what I record would be with a strong offensive line.
It changes everything and resets the negative chain reaction in the other direction.
LSU can't run block so they can't force numbers into the box. Because they can't force numbers into the box, the passing game is having to make tighter window plays. LSU can't pass protect either so they can't utilize the explosiveness of the receiving corps down the field. Because they can't force the ball down the field, defenses can sit on underneath routes. Because they can't make explosive plays, they have to be super efficient. Because they have to be super efficient to move the ball, any mistake of any kind kills drives. Because 1 mistake can kill a drive, LSU has had to settle for field goals alot.
Now flip it around.....With a good offensive line, LSU could run the ball. Because they can run, Barion, Kyle, Aaron & Trey Dez can get more 1v1 matchups. Because you can get 1v1's with explosive players, defenses now have to pick their poison. Because LSU can run, the play action game comes back into play. Because LSU can protect, Nuss has time to survey the field. Everything you don't like about this LSU offense goes back to the offensive line.

Chris Hilton should never touch the field. He's a terrible route runner and has zero ball skills. "fast" isn't good enough at this level.

Everybody except a few idiots here know the OL is why Nuss is struggling!

Nuss is still part of the problem. Playing a little better against Vandy doesn’t cancel out his inadequacies.

Recency bias. He played better game at Vandy. He’s still a large issue.
His lack of mobility, forced turnovers and bad checks in protection are not the offensive lines fault. In fact, his lack of mobility makes a struggling line look considerably worse.
The offensive line is stinks, correct. But you are basically saying Nussmeier needs perfect conditions to succeed. If that’s the case, he’s just an average player.

Yes..
Run game helps the pass game- pass game helps the run game. Offensive line is the key.

Homework assignment: name the all-time SEC passing leader. Due by CoB Friday 10/24/25. (I'm trying to help you maintain a modicum of credibility.)

You've got it turned on its head. Nuss like led the league in '24 passing under pressure. He's never had the help of a running game, elite WRs (think Chase and Malik), and this year even the pass blocking is terrible.
What he's being asked to do is compensate for poor play at every level of the offense. IMO, he did a pretty good job of that last Saturday.

And with 3 drafted linemen he still struggled. One of those offensive linemen hasn’t allowed sack in the league. I’m in agreeance he played much better at Vandy. One of the points I’m making is his lack of mobility compounds issues. He had the lowest number of sacks taken at some point last year. One could argue that’s not necessarily a good thing because the high number of turnovers indicated that he would rather throw picks than take a sack or take off running. But yes, I agree he played better last week. But he is still a part of the issue.

I will heartily agree that Nuss can and should play better and especially so considering he's a 5th senior.
But I would argue at this juncture, he is easily the most functional part of our offense.
It's not that everything else has to function perfectly for him. It's that he has to be perfect to compensate for everything else that is so fundamentally wrong on offense.

I see what you’re saying. It’s hard to argue what ifs, but you have to wonder how the offense would look with a mobile Nuss. Not asking him to be JD, but Burrow type of athlete.

Murray had a tendency to fold in big games just like Nuss of course he gives a positive review

People didn’t want to face it last season but he was basically dragging the offense along by himself. That was the first year of Sloan, now there’s tape on it, the Oline is less talented and he was hurt early on. It’s pretty simple to figure out what’s happened.
