Tulane VS LSU

There has been a debate going on on gotula.net in light of ur new AD.
Looking for Tiger fans thoughts on playing TU in the sports that matter, Fball, MBball and baseball.
Is there no interest? Would it have to 2-1 or only in LSU or the dome? Is it only older fans who witnessed the rivalry who care? Does it even matter because the LSU admin won’t play TU no matter what?
TU is finally investing in athletics and making changes when necessary. FBall seems to have turned the corner and though BBAll was a mess at least they did pay market rates for MD and then canned him and replaced him with a proven winner. Baseball is a WIP but not an RPI drain.
This is not meant to start a TU bashing thread, we deal with enough pain. Trying to get thoughtful opinions on this historic rivalry and how fans think about playing TU vs some of the other useless doormats on ur respective schedules.

Sounds like a hullabaloo to me.

The best academic university in Louisiana trying to become the clear 2nd best athletic university in Louisiana.

Typical and expected. Hopefully some LSU fans can step up.

You'll get a lot of negative comments on the Rant but in private most LSU fans welcome the recent athletic changes at Tulane. Many that I talk to are hopeful but past disappointment prevent anyone from getting too excited.
The disadvantage of a private funding base can be offset with increased television revenue and a couple of well-placed bond issues. The historic advantages of recruiting to New Orleans (food, Mardi Gras, food, nightlife, food...) will solve a lot of problems. Like they said at Harry Cohn's funeral, give the people what they want and they will come.

1. We should play Tulane as follows:
2. In football, ONLY in Tiger Stadium and in a rotation with La Tech, ULM, and ULL.
3. In MBB, one year in the PMAC and one year in the NO Arena and never on their campus.
4. In baseball, never in Turchin but one year in Alex Box and the next in the Shrine on Airline with the tickets split.

I remember the LSU/Tulane rivalry when I was a kid in the 80’s. Tiger Stadium was always packed and the Dome was always packed. Tulane was competitive back then...beat LSU 48-7 in ‘81, 31-28 in ‘82 (Orange Bowl bound LSU), and lost to #5 ranked LSU 41-36 in ‘87 (LSU was Gator Bowl bound and Tulane went to the Independence Bowl). Tulane had legit D1 talent back then...and a legit fan base. It was fun though. Wheel barrel parades the Sunday following the LSU/Tulane game with both sides strongly represented. I really don’t see LSU going anywhere but the superdome if it were to strike back up, but even then it would seem to be 75-25 LSU fans even there.

Definitely should be figured out and worked back into the schedule somehow in the next couple years. There is no reason to pay these out of state schools money when we can keep the money in state. I’m also sure there is a way to do a home and home but their home game would be in the Dome not in their stadium obviously but would be a hell of a fun time.

LSU stopped playing Tulane in baseball when they jacked the F out of prices to LSU fans for that one game.
That shite doesn’t fly.

Many thanks to the recent responses.
I agree with the LSU approach as much as it hurts. I do think ending the weekday baseball home and home is unfair to several parties (LSU ALUM in NOLA and history). We are not some directional LA school but I digress.
It is sad that LSU would prefer some of their garbage 3 home OOC FBall games over TU, but I can understand ur POV, maybe TU would not agree to one off games in Tiger Stad, who knows.
It does frustrate me that the two nationally recognized universities in LA cannot play games against each other, business is business.
More comments would be appreciated.
...and yes increasing prices for TU/LSU baseball was the straw that broke the camel’s back. But isn’t that how LSU treats surge pricing for marquee games in all sports? It was a dammed if u do dammed if u don’t. TU baseball fans had to pay more as well. IDK

Basketball and baseball wouldn't be that big a deal for home and home.
Football, on the other hand, is the goose that lays the golden egg. That would have to be in Tiger Stadium every year or part of an instate rotation with other state schools. The SEC requires its members to play at least one game against a team from a power five conference so that requires a lot of home and home or neutral site games. No way LSU does another home and home of any kind (not even 2 for 1) with a non power five opponent. Too much lost revenue.

From the late 50s to the early 70s Tulane was second only to the hated Ole Miss Rebels as a natural rival to LSU. This was especially so beginning in 1966, when Tulane hired Jim Pittman and became competitive in football.

The last couple of times LSU played the weenies, once in the Dome, the others in TS, they did not sell out their ticket allotment. If they have no interest, why the hell should LSU care a flip? They are not actually a "La". school...when it comes to student body makeup. Last I read, 85% are from out of state, a large part from the East Coast. LSU gets zip from playing them in any sport. I am a long time LSU fan & know of literally no one who even mentions the weenies in any conversation about sports.

It would be notable to point out attendance figures of LSU-Tulane games played in the old Tulane Stadium, back in the day:
1966: 82,307
1972: 85,372
1973: 86,598
Each one of games features an attendance far greater than the Tiger Stadium games back in those days. In 1973, a vast majority in the stands were Tulane fans!
I believe a home and home vs Tulane (with the Tulane home game being played in the Dome) is possible with a restored rivalry, and as Tulane football once again gains prominence.

The difference is this. LSU does raise prices for marquee games but the percentage of LSU fans vs. visiting fans that buy the tickets are the roughly the same no matter the game. Tulane did it knowing that the percentage of the away team buying the tickets would be way higher than an average Tulane game.

LSU seems to have a lackluster fan base for away games. There's no reason LSU fans can't buy up the tickets for an "away" game only 70 miles from their home. I've seen other teams' fans, notably Georgia, travel hundreds of miles to take over opponents' stadiums for football games. Look at their turnout in Tiger Stadium in 2018!
