Wanna bet?? Two huge egos that collided and neither one like to be micromanaged but love to micromanage. Emmett had big enough ego and rank to make it work. He was the buffer. BUT, the NFL itch was there also.

It had nothing to do with the chancellor.
He was going to the NFL and some of the players even have said they were shocked he stayed as long as he did.
Emmert got lucky with the hire as opposed to his UW hire of Willingham.
LSU was never going to match NFL money and even if they would have it would not have been enough to sway Saban from trying the NFL.

False. Was with team during bowl game loss to Iowa. Dolphins were all over him. His ego sent him to Miami. His friends, his agent, and his family were telling him to stay at LSU. He just had to see if he could do it in the Bigs.
