I think we're comparable - but with matchup questions that make the Bama game look more daunting, if that makes sense.

Although improving, I still think our OL and DL look weaker and more susceptible to getting pushed around than last year's squad. Guice hasn't quite shown the flashes of last year. Defense isn't as smothering, for sure.

Most aspects of the team appear to be trending up - a mid-season improvement that is unusual, so there is reason for optimism. The Homerism outbreak appears legit.

QB - Slightly Better
RB - Much Worse
WR - Slightly Better
TE - Push
OL - Much Worse
DL - Slightly Worse
LB - Slightly Worse
DB - Slightly Better
Kicking/Punting - Push
Kick/Punt Coverage - Slightly Better

Overall coaching - Push

I'd say that the team is not quite as good as last year.

I'm gonna go with False. I think the biggest difference for me is all of the talent and leadership that we lost from last years defense. It was truly one of the best defenses I've ever watched. This years defense seems to take some adjusting in the first half of games. Bends a little more than I remember last years defense bending.

Also, the lack (so far) of a dominant running game.

False.
1 (neutral) OOS loss to a good Wisconsin team and 1 (away) SEC loss to a decent Auburn team is much better than 1 (home)OOS loss to Troy and 1 historic (away) SEC loss.

That said. I don't necessarily think this TEAM is worse. It is certainly much more of a wildcard than 2016.
We still aren't quite sure what we have and we seem to actually be making substantial improvement from week to week.

The Auburn win is quite possibly our best win since 2011.
2014 Ole miss - runner up.

For 2 straight years Clemson forced their defense to play honest and exploited their pass coverage deficiencies and threw numerous slants to stop all of their blitzing.

Deshaun Watson! With a normal QB Clemson gets destroyed by Bama in both those games.

Say what?

We are not better off without Tre White and Jamal Adams. That is ludicrous

Better shape as in our resume is better at this point in time than we were at the same point in time last year, or better shape as in our future potential is brighter?

Because the future (3-5 year window) is still pretty bleak, IMO.

As for this season, we could win out and would still miss the playoffs. That wasn't a possibility last season.

I have zero confidence in us beating Bama - also not the case last year.

I don't think you or others fully grasp just how bad the loss to Troy was and how bad it looks.

We had a chance of beating Bama last year at home and gave them a close game. Not going to be the case this year in Tuscaloosa. Bama is stacked with experience, LSU is not. Big difference.

False. Last year's team was better. We lost to both Auburn and Fla. on the last play of the game and we were tied with Ala. after 3 qtrs.

Agreed.

Ed Orgeron is still our coach and recruiting is not looking great, which is devastating because we have serious holes to fill on this roster. Long term is still scary.

This season, I don't think we've really got a shot a Bama, which wasn't the case last year. The SEC is down though big time, so we could win a couple more games.

As a group, the defensive backs are playing better this year, and the stats back that up.
