I am so sick of this discussion.
It’s embarrassing and should be done by programs who actually never win anything.

Outside of an injury to JD, yes, we win the title in 2023 with worse players on defense this year than last.
We allowed 34 ppg against P4/5 teams last year, we are only allowing 22.6 ppg against P4 teams this year. Our 2024 defense that is getting better each week is allowing 11.4 ppg less than last years defense, so yea, we win the natty scoring 50ish ppg and only allowing 20ish ppg.
You also gotta remember how many turnovers this team has given us, Jaydens offense punted less than once per game in 2023. Every turnover would be nearly guaranteed touchdowns for the offense. This 2024 defense is averaging 2.0 turnovers recovered per game vs power 5 opponents compared to last years 0.8 per game. So our offense is averaging 1.2 extra possessions per game which probably acounts for an extra 7-8 ppg due to the offensive efficiency. Lets not forget the 1 4th down conversion per game that we failed in field goal range because we were terrified to not score a TD every drive since the defense was so bad. Well give 2 ppg from field goals for that. So now we are looking at a 21 ppg scoring margin increase. That is absolutely silly. Also remember, 2023 LSU punted less often than 2019 LSU.
Below is our hypothetically 2023 team with 2024 LSUs defense compared to the 15-0 GOAT 2019 LSU team against power 5 opponents only. Can you guess which one is which?
Team A
Offense: 47 ppg
Defense: 25 ppg
Team B
Offense: 50 ppg
Defense: 22 ppg
Team A is the GOAT 2019 LSU...

2013 LSU wins the natty with the 2014 defense. 2012 LSU wins the natty with the 2013 offense. We could do this about every single season.

Absolutely no doubt in my mind about that.

Took an injury to see where we had gotten really really weak. Hope it’s not injury but there is still one big leader gap.

Yes.
We had the best offense in CFB last year. No idea how a DC could scheme against Jayden. He was smooth as butter, fast as lightning, tough as nails, and could thread a needle at 50 paces. Give'm an inch and he'd take it to the house.

And pretty much every LSU team wins the national championship with 2019 offense.
