So glad that Green wisely ditched McMahon and the basketball team to focus solely on football.

It's not like he wasn't solely focusing on football before. He joined the basketball team in mid-January...which for LSU means only about 2 months of the season. Football was always going to be No.1. Of course, he immediately became LSU's most athletic frontcourt player...which says more about the state of the basketball program than anything.

Absolutely no reason for our red zone offense to suck this year.
It shouldn't just be the redzone offense... Green could/should be our version of the possession running game, if he has good hands.

It's kinda like the West Coast offense back in the mid-80's; if you can pass for 5-7 yds at will, why focus on JUST running?

When the offense gets inside the 20 the only play that should be run is Green lined up on the outside for a jump ball in the back corner of the end zone. His height and vertical will beat any defender.
_______

That surely will be an option, but we can't be predictable. Green should be a priority in the red zone, but slants and fades can be utilized to not be as predictable.

Green can be just as valuable as a decoy in the red zone with the matchup issues he creates. He’s a guy that DCs will specifically gameplan for every week when looking at the red zone.

We have several WRs 6’ and over who can play off of that matchup. Sloan needs to get creative and use them well together with Green to put the defense in no-win situations and create open space.

For example- a levels concept with Green running an out to the back pylon, Hilton running ahead to the front pylon, and Parker running the middle behind both. Speed, a physical matchup nightmare and an elite route runner with great hands overloading the side.
The defense will immediately be drawn to Green in the back and the guys left will have to make a choice on what space to cover on Hilton and Parker.

Then delay Durham out of the backfield to the short side if the pocket holds. That’s how you put stress on a defense.

Don’t think he has anywhere near the YAC ability pitts had, but I do expect him to go off possession wise

YAC is one of the biggest knock on Pitts, he just hasn't developed like people thought he would. Among NFL TEs, he was 24th in the league in YAC per reception at just 2.7 yards.

He was just a matchup problem in college. What made him so good in college was making contested catches against much smaller DBs, not so much him being an open field threat after he caught passes.

Green def has the frame and athleticism to develop into a player like Pitts. I don't know if he will, but it's not a terrible comp. However, I do think Pitts is/was faster than Green. But if we're talking putting the ball up on fade routes and catching balls in traffic, I think Green can be that guy.

so you're saying 3 guys compacted within 10 yards in the end zone? Yeah, that could work.

The breaks are usually staggered so you have each receiver arriving at their target points different times. You flood the zone and get the defense moving and find where they stretch too far. If they don’t, you have the backside option. Or if the QB rolls with the out routes, he may have an opening to run it in.

This isn’t something new. This play has existed for a long time in many forms. It just lines up well with our receivers, especially a guy like Green. It’s an easy way to use attention on him running the back line to open space for others in the red zone.

Agree with your comments. We do have other good options if he's a decoy. But throwing it to him in these situations is also a good option.

We should be much better in the red zone this year. If Sloan calls decent plays, we have the players that can win their matchups.

Correct. Last year, we were putrid in the RZ. My comment was regarding RZ production with a freak athlete like Green. If it sucks, it's not because we lack the talent on the field. It'll be because we lack the brains in the box.

I fully expect him to be involved heavily in all aspects of offensive production.

He could have a monster career here the next two years. Excited to see him too.
