At this point it allows him to play against next year somewhere else. He isn't an SEC starter caliber guy, but at a smaller school he can shine and maybe make an NFL roster.

I just dont see this as anything other than he quit the team and either football altogether or will transfer. You dont do this mid-season like this for anything other than "I'm out see ya". HE obviously wasn't playing much and this is his senior year by class so he should have his degree before next season.
