quote:Yep. This is the game now. Good, bad, or indifferent. We’re not going to make a stand or send a message by opting out of participating in heavily paying players. All that will do was leave us in the dust. You see what it’s done to Clemson. They’re trying now, but it is late in the game. I hope some of the old timers can understand this. It’s not going back. So our only choices are to either participate or become a low tier program. Your choice. That’s what it is. Let the rich people spend where they want.
NFL lite, is what it tells me

Is there a difference anymore?

I mean I agree in some ways.
Can't give one guy 8 million like underwood. You can pick guys that have developed into men and not have to pay the big money up front as a freshmen like we did this year on D. But it would set a bad precedent for kids coming out of school. Not sure it would work being an nfl lite program.
These kids this year are family so it works. They generally like each other. I have my reservations

high school recruiting is effectively irrelevant now. Even if they actually sign with your, team, they are only guaranteed to have them 4 months as a freshman, then it’s open season for other teams to raid your team.
QB - Nuss
RB1 - Durham
RB2 - Jackson
RB3 - Berry
RB4 - Johnson
TE1/2 - Green
WR1 - Anderson
WR3/4 - Hilton
WR4/5 - Parker
LT - Adams
OG - Mubenga/Echols/Curne
RT - Davis
Edge - Reliford
DT - McKinley
DT - Guillory
DT - Breaux
Edge - Carpenter
MLB - Weeks
MLB - Keys
WLB - Perkins
WLB - Weeks, Zach
WLB - Singleton
CB 2 - Woodland
CB 3 - Pickett
CB 4 - Stamps
S 3 - Spears
S 4 - Gilbert
PK - Ramos
KOS - Burell
High school recruiting is not irrelevant.

I have a hard time that you’d pay a man $10M per year and not have him call the shots.
I think the boosters turned the heat up on him a bit which encouraged him to be more aggressive, sure. But there ain’t no way someone else is calling the shots in any way in that football ops building.

JMHO but the state of Lousiana has some of the best athleats in the country....and always undervaluaed.
The magazines love to bump Bama recruits. Its not because of a conspricy but because of TV vewership.
And that is changing a bit. The viewership numbers for B'ham and surounding areas is off the charts compaired to the population.
Auburn fans are some of the most hard core loyalist fans in the world. and i aint no aubern fan.....at all.

LSU data analysts did a study (not public) that showed that the average 3 star from Louisiana performed on par with the average out of state 4 star. This was a quote from Jack Marucci from a podcast 3-4 years ago.
While I am not a "take every La kid" guy, I do favor them in the portal. I also favor them at certain positions out of high school like WR, CB, IDL, and off ball LB, especially if the ranking is comparable.
We haven't produced many elite QB, TE, OL (outside of Campbell and Jones), Edge, or Safeties in the past few years.
The '27 quarterback class will likely be the best in La state history. We have been producing some really, really good RB, but LSU hasn't had much success with the ones we end up with. Losing the top echelon of the '22 class really hurt.

Market value is real. I think LSU is showing they played the market correctly, that doesn’t mean overspend.

Both! I think LSU has always had a lot more appeal to players, but now we are matching market value too

That’s the key, like the nfl lite comment. You need to pay the right players at the right position the right amount of money. You get off that formula, paying one too much, paying wrong positions you will get past by quickly and set your program back.

Naw, Kelly isn't the kind of coach to take a backseat in decision making unless he's on board with it.
quote:
I think this was similar. They told Kelly they'd spend whatever they had to but he better grab some players that he thinks can get the job done, because they don't want to hear about talent deficiency from him anymore
I do think that's likely.

Recruiting is a lot different now because teams have to leave the door open for players after they commit elsewhere
Posted on 9/24/25 at 9:03 pm to tigerskin
BK earned all his money through the portal. Great job. Very impressive. And pretty quiet about it all
