Jacob Hester.
Mainly bc any list that mentions the words "greatest" and "LSU" needs that guys name on it.
Even if he was a 2 star outa high school.

1. Pete Maravich - all time NCAA scoring leader
2. Billy Cannon - did not have the pro career that others had, in large part due to injury. Makes this list largely due to his all-around athletic ability as he did well in track in addition to football. Also, he held the pro record for total yards in a game for about 30 years.
3. Shaq - NBA all time top 50 team, MVP, you name it.
4. Jim Taylor - I think this man is too often forgotten. The only man other than Jim Brown to lead the NFL in rushing while Jim Brown played.
5. Bob Pettit - NBA all time top 50, NBA MVP, arguably defined the power forward position.

Honorable mention:

Tommy Cassanova - I would put Cassanova over Cannon if this were limited to football.

Chris Jackson - my favorite LSU athlete of all time

Seimone Augustus - if I knew more about ladies' hoops, perhaps she makes my list.

Joe Adcock - had to be considered due to all-around ability. Started on basketball team and did quite well and went on to a not-quite HOF career with Milwaukee Braves. hit with tremendous power. I go with Adcock over Chad Jones because Adcock achieved more in two sports, and this is no knock on Jones who was one of my favorites.

Hard to believe that no T&F athlete made my list but do note that four of my five won some form of season MVP award for his sport or, in Maravich's case, holds a significant ALL-TIME record.

Ha, this is the dumbest post I've read on the Rant in a while.

1. He's an incredible athlete for his size.
2. He's one of the most dominant basketball players ever.
3. You can't spell athlete.

P. Mac. Cannon. Shaq. Esther Jones. Eddy Furniss. Lolo? seriously? You all have the wrong jones. E. Jones won gold in 92, and DOMINATED at LSU. She's even in our Hall of Fame. And Eddy still owns like half of the SEC career records for baseball. I also think a few of his home runs is in orbit still.

I think there is a difference between Athletes and Players. Shaq of course was a hall of fame player but does that mean he was the most athletic? I don't think so.

Tommy casanova
Ed Palubinskas
Mikael Olander
Glenn Hardin
Jim Taylor

But I think this list shows just how spoiled we are as a fan base.

Are you talking pure athleticism or guys who are accomplished?

Because I'd think Xavier Carter would qualify for both.

Michael Olander was NCAA Decathlon Champion in 1986. He only placed 17th at the 88 Olympics at age 25. He quit competing as he was a super academic guy too and received a full academic scholly to USC (souther cal) for his masters. If he would have kept competing, he would have had a chance at a medal in 92. Dude was a beast. He was Swedish but if he had been born in y=the US, would've been a hell of a football player....6'-2" 198lbs. Probably would have been 215lbs as a football player.

Replying to someone else? I, rather regrettably, couldn't put a T&F athlete on my list.

He def was not dominant in baseball. He was good, not great. Ben McDonald was dominant in baseball, Eddy Furniss, Brandon Larson, Brad Cresse, etc...

Watch some older videos of LSU athletics before Facebook.

Any list that doesn't have Pete Maravich on it is worthless. He was named in the top 50 all time NBA players but isn't in the top 5 of all time players at LSU? Crazy. Just watch his game against the New York Knicks when he scored 68 points with HOF Walt Clyde Frazier guarding him.

List should include Glenn "Slats" Hardin. Won the Olympic gold medal in 1936 ( the only LSU athlete to hold an individual gold medal) in the 400 meter hurdles. Held the world record for 19 years.

Wow. You serious man?

Shaq was as freak as it gets at LSU. And to say decent BB player makes me want to ask you to go back to the TD office and hand in your TD credentials. You have ZERO credibility on here now.

Be gone little bird. Troll somewhere else.

Richard Mother fricking Thompson. I mean without Usain Bolt (who is arguably one of the greatest athletes ever created) Torpedo Thompson would have been the fastest man in the world.
