I suspect that defensive line play will be slightly better than last year. We were thin at tackle and our ends lost contain quite a few times early in the year, but that got better. Hopefully that is fixed. A little better depth will improve things at tackle, even if the starters are not quite as talented (not making that claim, just trying to be objective)as last season. Overall, the defense should be better, mainly because the defensive backfield will be much better than what we started with last season.
But I agree with the comment that no one other than a coach knows the ins and outs of LSU like a die hard LSU fan. At this point, talking heads are just trying to attract attention. What they say now is for the most part of no real value. They will make more sense as the season progresses.

Losing your two starting interior defensive tackles and a safety with four years of extensive experience is a big deal - whether LSU fans want to admit it or not.
Of course it matters. I think the point that's baffling to most is that Wisconsin lost more key players from last years team and have just as many, if not more, question marks. Yet the "gurus" predict a dark cloud of inexperience and ineptitude will somehow engulf LSU and spare Wisconsin. Somehow I doubt that. Tigers win.

Following 2010, LSU lost:
Both starting interior lineman (Nevis and Levingston) that were combined more dominant than Freak and Ego.
Lost our starting stud MLB in Sheppard (bigger loss than Barrow)
Lost our best DB/CB in Peterson who I'd say was more important to LSU than Loston.
How'd that 2011 defense turn out?

He's a homer for the state of georgia and alabama. doesn't spend much time heaping praise on any other teams.

everything that I am hearing from SEC "insiders" here in Alabama is either wrong or dismissive.

While this defense is young, I think it will be as good as in 2011.

Give that team some credit. D was legendary.

Returned Reid, Claiborne, Simon, Mathieu, Baker, Brooks, Francois, Montgomery, Adams, Taylor...
Non-returning starters: Minter, Brockers, Logan, Edwards, Mingo, Freak... why make the comparison?

A 3 page thread about what Tony Barnhart 'said' tells me that even LSU fans are worried about the Wiskey game, and they should be.

Having Brockers, Bennie and Badger step up in '11 really helped. Not to mention Minter.
The question is: will Lacouture, Herron and ??? step up in '14?

Tony Barnhart NEVER gives LSU credit. Never has. He focuses on the East and Alabama and Auburn.

LSU runs the ball 50 times for 400 yards. nothing else will matter

Loved having Loston as a tiger, all the talent needed. But he played like he had a dual personality; great one play and lost on the next.

Everything is relative.
Relative to Wisconsin, it really shouldn't be viewed as a cause for a disadvantage.

Every team loses players. Every year. LSU returns 13 starters overall. He did not mention the losses of the other teams.
True. I actually looked this up a while back, the last 5 years (2014 is the fifth), LSU has only averaged 12.4 returning starters which is incredibly low. The lone time we had more than 13 (15) we went 13-1. We returned 10 in 2010 (horrible pass offense but 9th ranked defense) and went 11-2. It is remarkable the job Les and the whole staff does dealing with less experience every year. The talent evaluation is really great considering our best juniors are usually starting at some point their freshman year.

Look, Tony Barnhart NEVER gives LSU credit. Never has. He focuses on the East and Alabama and Auburn. My point is simply that LSU has a lot of positives and the media only notices the negatives.
1000% THIS I use to watch the weekly SEC football one hour show they had (probably still) do, on CSS. Barnhart always downplayed LSU and talked that nonsense. I got so tired of him going on about Bama and UGA/UF.
