his approach and bat control are MLB quality

He swings at a LOT of bad pitches. He can get the bat on them and some even find the outfield grass, but as good as Tommy is he’d be even better laying off the junk.

Go ahead and crucify me.

Tell me how his approach has changed. I don't see any

I see people mostly criticizing his first-pitch approach, which is no different than it has been his whole career. It is an aggressive hitting philosophy that is as old as baseball, that being the first pitch is often the best pitch you see from many pitchers so jump on it if it looks good.

Approach hasn't changed. Earlier in the season he looked like he expanded the zone on first pitches now that he was "the guy" and in classic baseball terms was trying to do too much.

He seems to have gotten more selective recently and the results are starting to show.

He’s an aggressive hitter which is a good thing. He’s not going to watch a 3rd strike go by and he might hit that borderline ball into RF for a hit. I also like the first pitch swinging if some guy’s throwing cookies on the first pitch to try and get ahead of you. State did that a bunch and most of our guys sat there and watched it.

he has 9 Ks in 89 at bats. and 10 bb.

he has maybe the best 2 strike approach ive ever seen and he was slumping to start the year.

I know what you mean. He had some bad swings in Minute Maid Park but seems to have gotten it straight since that weekend.

Yes he can put the bat on almost anything near him.
That doesn’t mean he should.

well, he's a career .365 hitter with a career .429 OBP and 1.152 OPS, so I think he probably swings at pitches he should more frequently than most hitters do. he had the lowest K rate on the team last year, which is not normal to see from a power hitter like him. His BABIP is absurdly good. Quite frankly, he was simply rusty to start the season as he didn't swing a bat from the time last season ended until January.

Hit 30 home runs as a freshman. He is definitely legit.

before his recent surge he had a ton of loud outs

this board hates to account for luck, or bad luck

you can see how fast it corrects itself with guys like Milam, Milazzo or Neal vs Tommy White in the pther direction

People underestimate the wind early on too.

Tommy had a couple bombs die in the wind.

Mik’d Up said Jones had one go 116 off the bat with a good angle and end up and easy out in the warning track
