Something hasn’t been right for this baseball program for many seasons. I am not an expert on recruiting but I thought this program was pulling in top 10 classes every season ?

Honestly, I am not interested in this season. Looks like we have too many young players who are not difference players at the plate. Again...where is the top recruits ?

I hope Paul Mainieri retires at season’s end. I would hate to see mediocre baseball the next few seasons. Something isn’t adding up on talent or coaching. Idk ?

Yeah, 7-5 through 1 sucks but it is very early. Just for giggle I decided to look at the 12 game record of the CWS champs starting with LSU's 2009 win

2009 -LSU - 10-2
2010 - USCe - 8-4
2011 - USCe - 9-3
2012 - Arizona - 11-1
2013 - UCLA - 10 - 2
2014 - Vanderbilt - 10 - 2
2015 - Virginia - 11-1 but then went 5-7 in the nest 12.
2016 - Coastal Carolina - 6-6
2017 - Florida - 10-2
2018 - Oregon State - 12-0
2019 - Vanderbilt - 10-2

No conclusions drawn, just info

Your post is SPOT ON! This has been the case for 3 years now! It’s way beyond time for CPM to GEAUX!

Paul Maineri needs to go! He has drained the life blood out of our baseball program. He has never understood or embraced the culture that is LSU baseball. His style of play is just a bad fit for our fans. LSU fans enjoy baseball most when our team is crushing the baseball and PM has never embraced that. His style of play isn’t what LSU baseball fans are used to

There's actually some pretty level-headed posts in this thread with the usual no value added knee-jerk ones scattered amongst it.

To the OP I would agree Vandy is ahead of us. But UF had a dismal '19, CPM has dominated Van Horn historically, and State is on coach 4 in 5 years and just lost to a SWAC school or the like.

Every one is fixed on being no-hit today. But IRL we do have a bunch of new faces and it's early in the season. 3 years ago a true Fr pitcher for us threw a 2-hit CG shutout vs a very good hitting Arky team at Arky. But it was 1 game. It didn't make or break our season or their's. Nor will today.

There are legitimate criticisms of CPM:
- Being a national seed 6 years in a row (impressive) but only having 2 trips to Omaha to show for it.
- Having no LHPs on staff last year
- And one that may plague us all this year is finding a lead off hitter.

But blaming him for untimely injuries or a rash of injuries is fertilizer as is wanting to fire him 3 weeks in.

If this team doesn't improve across the season then I will be first to say we need to look elsewhere. And have someone lined up in advance.

Maybe I’m crazy, but wasn’t it just 2 seasons ago we were in the finals and one of our stud pitchers got hurt which significantly impacted the outcome??

Did you watch the game today buddy? Our starting pitching was exceptional but that doesn’t mean shite if we legitimately can’t get a hit

To be fair, I wanted him fired after he started sandbagging and not making the tourney in 2011. I wanted him fired in 2012 after losing to Stoney Brook in the BR super regional, then in 2014 after losing to Houston in the BR regional, and I wanted him fired last year after losing to FSU in the BR super regional! This year will be no different!

I do not like him
in the dug out.
I do not like him
when he pouts.
I do not like him
Here or there.
I do not like him
Anywhere.

Which one is the million dollar question
Are we not recruiting well enough or are we not developing the kids to play SEC / college level ball

The pitching is really good but you have to have run support too. Got to give credit to both starting pitchers, they pitched great. I just don't understand how the coaching staff kept making the batters take in a 2-0 count and the pitcher kept throwing strikes and eventually got the batter out. Change it up and let them swing away, they had nothing to lose, maybe they start rocking those fastballs down the middle in that 2-0 count.

Look, I agree it’s time for Paul to go, but these excuses are so played out. He doesn’t embrace the culture? Geez...

It’s either good hitting and mediocre pitching or great pitching and mediocre hitting. PM can’t seem to put the two together. I don’t believe PM would know a good hitting coach if one bit him in the butt. PM has worn out his welcome.

I don’t like him but hope the team does well. I really enjoy LSU baseball and I believe we have a lot of talent.
