Love Brennan, but TJ allows us to run the RPO, especially the running plays.

We gashed SC with the run mostly befause TJ was excellent at running the QB fake/keeper. He held the defense, and created lanes, mostly because he is 6’6 250, and agile enough to get upfield and fall for some yards at the very least. He could have a bad keeper and still get 5 yards with size alone. The defense had to respect it, and our backs were finally freed up.

This has been missing all season.

Even if Brennan is a better passer we got to go TJ because of this added dimension brings.

Our total offense almost hit 600 yards, first time all season.

Even if Brennan could throw 45 tds for this team, we would be better if TJ was the starter. He wont throw for 45 tds, but he might throw for 25-30, run for 5-10 more, and he gives us ball control with the running game.

Edit: RPO is being debated on here. QB runs are part of the “run” part of RPO. And LSU is an RPO team since Brady installed it. Burrow dominated with it.

QB either hands it or keeps it (RUN)

QB passes it (PASS)

Run does not mean “hand it to the back” only. Run could be a sweep to a WR, a handoff to a back, or a QB run. Meet me at sonic if you think otherwise.

God dammit for the 1000 time. RPO doesn’t mean the QB runs.

He does allow us to run read options though

TJ is not a runner. That was a game plan that worked for Max as well. You know what freed up our backs the Oline actually blocking.

That’s complete horse shite. Oline was much better.

Or South Carolina’s D line is not very good. Let’s see how things look against better teams who are stronger in the trenches.

Lol, uhh RPO means “Run Pass Optio.”

Read options, and also that pop pass we hit repeatedly.

Brennan isnt running those plays.

You are right but he did run a damn good RPO to jenkins in the second half. Pulled it and gunned a perfect throw to Jenkins on the slant/cross.

Hilariously wrong.

What freed up our running game was a running QB that held the defense.

So it had nothing to do with much improved offense line play, right?

It did not, it had everything to do with the fact that we had a QB in there they can actually run the ball effectively.

Thank you!

Run-Pass-Option: OL blocks run, receivers run pass concept. Quarterback reads defender, if defender plays run, he throws to a receiver. If defender plays pass, he HANDS the ball to the RB.

The only time a QBs running ability matters in RPO offense is if they run some type of stick, QB draw. In fact, the RPO became popular during the spread read-option days for teams that did not have a mobile quarterback. The coaches who claim they “invented” the RPO literally call it the “option for unathletic quarterbacks”.
