This is the worst defense since 2008. The players look lost and confused just like that year. That is all coaching. Nothing will get fixed until next season.

I agree but they are not missing tackles at all.. not even Najee is breaking tackles

While missed tackles make me sick, it is the one area where I’m willing to give the team a little slack. Georgia returned 8 starters on defense. LSU returned 4 - one of whom didn’t play the majority of last year due to an injury, and one of whom has only played in 1 of 3 games so far this year.

If we were just missing tackles, I’d feel a hell of a lot better to be honest.

Ok, so why are you surprised people are complaining?

I don’t blame anyone for complaining but I’m saying there are problems beyond the coaching IMO

Let’s simplify and prove our talent is better than whoever we are playing. Our offense is good enough to win. Play Cover 1 and Cover 3 only! It can’t be worse

They want to put it all on Bo to deflect blame from everyone else including and especially O. This team shows no focus, looks out of shape, and clearly thinks just being out their equals positive results.

That is the sign of a team emulating their coach. The difference between a guy like O and the top tier coaches, is even after their amazing years/championships, they pushed even harder. O took the easy route and settled on his laurels.

The team will do the same.

Does our defense look good to you? If no, then you look at the person in charge of the defense and that is Pelini.

Our players effort could absolutely be better on defense, but I think that is more of a product of them being frustrated with not knowing their job and the mass confusion on almost every play.

This. We saw the same thing in 2008 and we know they had talent. If the players don’t know what’s going on, they start thinking rather than reacting. It looks like they are playing in slow motion. Then the frustration sets in and can hurt effort. It’s death for a defense.

We have 68 scholarship players. Everyone else has 82-85, and it shows. We can hate Bo all we want, for inability to run a 3-8 against miss st, but it isn't his fault Harris and ricks don't know the play call, and we give up 5 botched plays for 30+a game against missou. 1st game was stingley out, ward off surger, evans no right playing.

Jimmie and Joe's matter... as bad as pellini has been

You'll be loving Bo before the end of the season. I think the light bulb is about to come on with this D.

I’m kinda of thinking the same. I recall his first 2 games under Miles. Keller threw for about 450 and then Clausen lit us up the next game. WRs we’re running free throughout our defense both games. It took a few games back then before we finally figured out what the hell we were doing.

Sure.. we’ve had plenty of broken coverage plays and they’re inexcusable. He’s been a poor hire for sure but I forgot what a real defense looked like until seeing UGA’s. They’re playing with so much grit and attitude and they’re so physical. They’re not doing so well because of their scheme. It’s all about their attitude and physicality. We could be the same way but we have NO thumpers! No one wants to lead and no one wants to be ‘that guy’.

I disagreed with the game plan for MSU, I think LSU until the young DB's no how to switch and not get rubbed and picked in crossing and wheel routes, use more 3 man front and drop 8 more, keep everything in front of you and limit the big plays, offense gives you a chance to score.

With that said, I don't think LSU's coaches forgot how to coach, 1) I think Chase, Big T and Vincent opting out not only had an impact on the experienced talent, all 3 are NFL caliber guys, but 2) I think it sort of impacted the culture of the locker room, not sure guys are as committed to wanting to play.

So am not blaming coaches in terms of coaching, but more of now getting guys mentally to want to play. So in that context, that does fall on Coach O.

Starts out with weight lifting, conditioning, doing your drills and reps less than 100% and you have a bunch of guys doing that and you get beat by a way, way, less talented MSU team and then guys are pointing fingers, etc.

The Key for LSU is to get it turned around next week and this year otherwise you are heading to an off season next spring having to re-establish a culture and commitment that O had going from his interim year in 2016 till last year culminating in the Championship.

Just my take

Ok. Some of this is on assistants. Some of this is on players who are not winning one on ones... and yes the back 7 clearly do not know what they are doing from play to play

everyone else is beating Mizzou
everyone else used a different D style than we did against them

why can Pelini no see what other coaches saw....
I excuse the first half...but he did not change or adjust...
same stubborn attitude as Miles

I never understand the rants obsession with having to blame one person. The defense is a top down problem. From O to Pelini to the position coaches to the players. Everyone is playing a hand in the defense’s start and they need to just work and get better. They don’t need to be great with this offense they just need to be good.

Have you looked at LSU’s first three opponents? MS was the only supposed “high powered offense” and Kentucky’s D put the shackles on it.
