LSU used to claim the 1908 championship, what happen is we changed SID and the SID office stopped claiming it.

There are articles from the 1930's claiming it put out by LSU, when DOC Fenton was honored in Tiger Stadium LSU still claimed it.

Even in the 1980's we were still saying 1908, 1958 and next year.

I’m usually not one for shite like this but why the hell not?

I mean, it seems something like this would be right up Woodward’s alley anyway. I don’t get the hesitancy.

I tell people LSU has 5 national titles if they ask. It’s a legit National Championship, allowed like 10 points all season. The NCAA recognizes LSU with 5, it’s ridiculous LSU doesn’t do the same.

There's no logical reason why we don't claim it. I don't get it.

LSU wasn’t “awarded” a title in 1908 until some self-appointed committee selected them as co-champs in the 1980s.

Most teams backed away from claiming pre-war titles years ago, but many of big brand programs have added them back to their numbers in recent years, with Bama, ND and Michigan at the forefront of this. If everyone else is going to, we should claim all we can, as well. Why not?

If NCAA says we have 5 but we don't claim it... seems like a joke about What school won 5 National titles but only claims 4? The answer is LSU ! Why Bob, because 1 of their fingers got bit off by a alligator ?? Sorry I just woke up!

Think about the kids on that team, it is a slap in the face to not honor this team!! We embrace our history of the old war school, so why not honor the legacy of the men on that team!!!

Mike at the time of 1908 there only an induvial appointing a National Champion,

those that did only saw about 10 games a year at max.

Most of the games that were watched, were Army-Navy, Penn, Harvard, Princton.

The person that bought LSU in to play was the reporter from the Memphis paper and Grantland Rice's attack on the LSU team (and I know what was said that night in the Tennessean Newpaper). Rice based his article off Tulane's Smith Brothers and BAUER, Charles C. Charles played under his father's name, and there was no reason, as he had not played football the year before.

I have copies of the statement from many of those there that night.

Not one of the northern writers saw any of the great southern teams play.

Vandy is the only team playing Michigan in that time and it is because of the Michigan connections, which reach down to Tulane and Joe Curtis

You are correct about that, but the problem is the Southern teams did not fare well when they played teams from other regions. From TipTop25.com:

LSU played a 1-game schedule and won 10-2, and over an Auburn team that, while 6-1, we have no reason to see as particularly powerful. Auburn beat Sewanee 6-0, who tied Vanderbilt, who lost 17-6 to a mediocre Ohio State and 24-6 to Michigan. And Michigan was smashed badly by its two Eastern opponents. Sewanee also tied St. Louis, beaten handily at home by both the Eastern teams they played, one of whom was not even top 25.
