i think orgeron changed it as much as he could given the situation, but let's not act like it was a revamp. i am certainly no fan of the coach o hire, but with canada coming in i think we are in a much better situation going forward in terms of offense. my frustration with miles is that he could have been at LSU for years if he just would have handed the offense off to someone who knew what they were doing. he could have had it all. but he let his ego get in the way.

So you're going to compare Orgeron's 4th game into an interim season to Les and his 11 years of building his team?
1.) It was the absolute worst offensive performance by a Bama opponent in the season.
2.) The offense was far less imaginative in that game than in the 1st 3 games.
3.) Guice only having 2 carries was one of the most inexcusable things O could have allowed under his watch.

8 men in the box and the other three playing run.
According to Bama fan though they stopped us because they are just that good and LF7 sucks not because the stacked the box and we were predictable.

I don't think there's a more frustrating memory about this series than settling for a FG after the fumble recovery in the '14 game.
It would have been foolish to putt he ball in the air when a potential game winning chip shot is in hand. They got screwed with a ridiculous unsportsmanlike penalty. The strategy then was just gain a few yards and shorten the FG distance even more. Had they passed there could have been a sack, holding call or interception.
BAMA benefitted from favorable officiating or the outcome is likely different. The unsportsmanlike penalty, failure to review the BAMA reception right before the tying FG, the illegal formation on the first play of overtime.
Criticize the coaches for conservatism at other points but they clearly made the right decision and trusted the defense which had allowed only 10 points to hold protect the lead with little over a minute left. Lets not forget the kickoff went out of bounds. How crucial was that?

This should tell you something about the football intelligence of the average bama fan

One thing I learned from Saban's time here at LSU is, it is all about the coach. He took a mediocre state team and jettisoned it into a national power. Miles did not have that intellect factor, and although he did win one national championship, the Saban effect wore off, never to return. Now we start anew. O does not pretend to be a coaching genius, but he does seem to know what it takes to assemble a coaching staff that, on the whole, can bring LSU back to its previous glory status. Yet, there is Saban out there, telling us, "if you want to beat Alabama, you'd better be ready to beat the best team in the last decade. It will be tough, but if we stick together and hustle, I believe we have the pieces of the puzzle to make a NC team. It may not be this year, or next, but sometime soon.

LSU with competent qb play is the most dangerous team in the country.
*and playcalling. Can't blame every QB when they have 2 WR routs and both are to the sidelines. So glad Miles/Cam are gone.

LSU comes out in Spread Formation first two drives. Four sacks and a pressure in the first five drop-backs. Etling got his @ss kicked. Period.
This wasn't Etling's fault.
This wasn't Orgeron's fault.
This wasn't Ensminger's fault.
This was an inability to protect the quarterback in the pass game.
This is because we had four guards starting on the OL with a Tackle playing Center.
This was because our Head Coach personally signed off on any offer on the OL Depth Chart.
When we realized we couldn't pass protect with the gameplan we had put together, the staff adjusted. Something Les Miles would never-IN A MILLION YEARS-never deign to do.
We went into a more conservative, basic gameplan that allowed Etling to stay upright. At the end of the day, Danny was going to get hurt because Les recruited total and complete sh!t for Tackles on this roster.
Don't look now, but we have some serious work at the Tackle spots again. To the point where Deculus may get the rare start at the Tackle position as a True Frosh in the SEC at a program like LSU's.
We have so badly mismanaged the Tackle position in specific and the OL position as a whole in terms of development, recruiting and on-field technique (lack of emphasis on Pass Pro) that we only got two years of La'El Collins at Left Tackle at LSU. It's been a recurrent, prevalent problem at LSU that has driven in-state talent away from our program and into the arms of our Divisional opponents like Alabama & Auburn in specific.
Anyone saying this was on Etling or anyone or anything else other than Miles is a buffoon.

Fact is they didn't really stack the box, they just made our OL look awful. their front 7 completely owned our OL.
They matched formations, if we only had 1 WR out wide with 2 or 3 TEs and a FB, then yeah, they are putting 8 in the box, that only makes sense. Not like they will play 2 deep safeties and 2 corners split out wide with nobody to cover.

Les Miles was so horrible that people are actually happy to have replaced him with Ed Orgeron.

Are we forgetting O's "hands off let my coordinator do his thing" approach? I wanted Guice to get more carries as well, but you have all world LF7 back there, and that's not an easy call to pull him, I'm sure.
Point is, the last couple of years, we haven't been able to block for shite against Alabama. Nothing was working that night.

meh. we were supposed to get blown out that game.
2012 was the bad one. mett was on fire and instead of giving him 3 chances to get a first and ice the game we run it then miss a FG and the rest is history trying to rely on chavis again to bail him out like so many other times.

Maybe that game, and pretty much every game with Jennings, the best option is to run it. But no imagination with the running game, especially against Alabama, you might as well get the 3 on first down.
Posted on 5/9/17 at 10:01 am to Fat Bastard
Our defense was lights out that game. I wasn't too upset with them getting conservative on offense at the end. Going prevent on that final drive was inexcusable. I'm more upset at Chavis on that.

That was the point. He let Steve go the entire course of a 60 min. game without shaking anything up personnel wise.

Guice averaged more YPC in that game than LF.

That's BS. No one had our offense figured out except Woody Hayes and Bo Schembeckler. sp
