Dont know why, but the idea of the dorms in the stadium fascinates me. What was life like in those rooms?

Any ranters here have any good stories from their time in the stadium dorms?

I heard stories that it would get so hot in the dorms, that they would wake up in the middle of the night to take a cold shower just to cool themselves off. They'd try to fall asleep still dripping wet before they got hot again.

No A/C, communal showers and toilets, one telephone in the middle of the hallway. 2 bunk beds per room but it was cheap ($85 per semester in 1966/67). It was also the easiest dorm to sneak alcohol and girls into. We had good times there.

Never stayed there, but visited friends who lived there. It wasn't luxurious, but if you've been in the military or even been to summer camp, they weren't that bad. Some people actually liked it. And the RA's had a certain...laissez-faire attitude about the rules. If you didn't destroy University property or consume illegal substances where they could see it, they left you alone.

My cousin had a room directly over the student gates. When the gates would open he would repel to the front of the line.

When did they close them for good? I remember going to games as a child in the early 80's and seeing speakers pointing out the windows with music blaring.

Was there really no way to access the stadium seats from the dorms?

I'd like to have a beer with you and hear some more stories.

They were still open when I was there. They were really run down and miserably hot. I don't see how anybody could have lived there to be honest.

Pentagon was a lot better INHO.

Moved in west stadium in'74. basically a concrete bunker for 3 occupants. Seems like the semester started in late August or early september-didn't matter. No a/c and that damn sun set in the west cooking west stadium to a toasty 85-90 degrees. All 3 of us went home first weekend and came back with a box fan. Man, it was like prison life. They had steam heaters that were arbitrarily cut on no matter what the temp was. . Really no rules but no comparison to north stadium-dude, that's where they put the animals!

It wasn't me, but my uncle lived in the dorm circa 1972ish.

Anyway, about the third night of his freshman year ppl were knocking door to door collecting money to pay some guy down the hall to streak around the stadium (streaking was really big back in the 70s).

Anyway, when they got to my uncles dorm my uncle said how much do you need and I think they said $25, so my unles asked how much do you have and they said $17, so my uncle said "frick that, I'll do it for $17". He did, and was a legend the rest of his days in the dorm.

The scariest part he said was rounding that southwest corner and running directly in front of campus police, but he didnt get caught

I lived in West Stadium. It was hot. I took showers with thousands of bugs every night. Those were the cleanest bugs on campus.

He also said they used to go right across the street to Bernie Moore almost every night and play pickup football games.

I lived in South Stadium from 1962 through 1964 and it was a good experience. The dorm had just been remodeled and had a new feel to it. I have very fond memories of watching games in TS, going to the Pastime bar afterwards for pizza and the coldest beer in town! Geaux Tigers!!
