started in new south stadium dorms in sept 1958, and finished in them in 62, great place. they closed east & west @ same time - no ac. was not hot - we had floor fans - did not have ac @ home. north stadium was also open & had waiting list - very cheap! do not think there was ac in campus dorms until after 62 - boys or girls

When I started LSU in '66 I believe the only freshmen girls dorm that was air conditioned was Powers. I lived in East Hall and it was miserably hot in August.
ETA: When we would be walking to Tiger Stadium, guys would be cat-calling from their windows in TS. Guess they didn't have dates.

moved in brand new south stadium in sept 1958, great!!! no ac - but we did not have ac @ home! north stadium had a waiting list - because they were cheap, left in june 62 - graduated the. did not think there was ac on campus dorms @ that time, my wife did not have it also.east & west were closed in 58 - did not know they reopened. could not get into stadium from rooms, had bars on windows, but we could use a mop handle, string loop & fish for drinks stored in cases in the stadium. hell we drive not have interstate to drive on from nola - hwy 61 to highland road or perkins to campus.
my brother had a car & would offer rides homes for a dollar & the girls would bring snacks back on sunday. would stop in laplace, gramercy & gonzales on way back & forth.

I was an RA in West Stadium for two weeks in the early '80s. It was hot as blazes and the only people who stayed there were terrorists in training! I threw in the towel and got an apartment - a worthwhile investment at the time.
(Maybe I would have enjoyed the experience more if I was one of the "terrorists in training" )

I remember them still open in the early 80's. Walking to class one morning , physical plant workers were taking down a large tree near the student gate. A large truck had a rope tied to it and the tree. When the chainsaw stopped the truck started forward then stopped all of a sudden. Well, the tree fell in an unintended spot , the bike rack next to the stadium! Students were whining about their newly crushed bikes. Laughed our butts off walking to class.

I lived in North Stadium in the early 60's. For a poor kid whose parents could not afford to send to college, it was a wonderfully cheap place to live while at LSU. Air conditioning, in my home town when I was growing up, the only place that was air conditioned was the movie house.

I lived in North Stadium, top floor, I think 5th floor. It was 1982, my sophomore year. I guess because it was near the end of the life of these dorms they weren't very crowded. All concrete walls. The rooms were made for more than 2 students but was just me and my roommate. We had lots of room. Was great on game days to hang out the roll out windows and yell down to girls walking around on game day with our speakers in the window blaring RUSH. We provided entertainment for early arriving students who started to cue up in line to get into stadium for games. Only had to show ID to get into student section. Some wild times in those cue lines for a couple of hours before entry. A good time was had by all in those simpler times.
Worst part was when it got cold we froze to death on north end of stadium with north wind blowing and the windows wouldn't close all the way. We stuffed wet towels in the cracks and the towels would freeze in the cracks. Steam heat and physical plant had some policy that you had to have so many days in a row below freezing before they would crank up steam units (at least that was what they told us). Very seldom did we have steam heat and regulating it was impossible.
We had to move our cars out of the parking lot west of the stadium where the Athletic offices are now located by Friday morning because on Fridays the tailgate RVs started showing up and we had to move for big donors to park in their undesignated, first come first serve parking spots. We had to move our cars to vet school and hoof it back to the dorm. That west parking lot was a commuter parking lot during the week. Fond memories. I only stayed that one year so I don't know when they ceased having them occupied but I don't think too much longer.

I have lots of fond memories of those dorms :) Had a study partner who was an RA and his room was tons bigger than my tiny space in Herget Hall! I could have literally touched my roommate's face when both beds were pulled out at night if I'd stretched an arm out. Creepy to think we all slept that close to one another!
My friend had several fans and I don't really remember it being that hot in his room. There must've been a girl's bathroom somewhere, because I don't remember seeing urinals during my potty breaks.
Plus, I was truly honored to be one of the two Stadium homecoming nominees in Sept, 1976 - I still have my number* Sadly, I didn't make it into the top ten, even though my brother was on the team. But it was so cool to represent the Stadium...where my friend lived beneath and my brother did battle above!
And I celebrated my 21st birthday in the dorm at a surprise party after a game - good times!
*why yes, I'm a dork - don't you see my screen name?!

I lived in west in 81 and south in 82. I loved it except for bathrooms. It was nice going back to the room at halftime. Football players in trouble had to run the upper deck ramps very early in the morning.

I lived in N Stadium. Not so bad. We didn't have A/C at home so the heat wasn't any real problem if you had a fan. No body cared about the communal showers or toilets. You took a shower or you took a shite and that was that. It was easy to sneak alcohol and girls in there. You had to share the alcohol. The girls were yours. There were serious card games, no little boy games. Several veterans living with us H.S. guys so nobody put up with any shite.
Most of you pussy boys couldn't have survived there, if your mommies would have even let you try.

Went to LSU in 89.....didn't stay in dorm but had friends that did. No AC but the rooms were much larger than other dorms. It's was a ton a fun to hang out there because the rules were lax....u could do whatever the hell you wanted to do....it was a shite load of fun before football games.....

I lived in South Stadium and had an overnight show on KLSU, which was located in East Stadium. I loved it. A private room there was less than a shared room elsewhere. No A/C was not a problem. The south stadium expansion has completely enveloped my old room such that my old window is inside the stadium by about fifteen feet or so. What do you want to know?

I lived in North Stadium right across from Mike my 1st year in 1984. It was the hottest year on record. I remember 104 degree days with No AC. Had to sleep with NO Cover, and would wake up at night with 3-4 inch Flying Roaches on my chest drinking the sweat off my chest. Rats as big as medium sized Cats. I reached in my wooden closet for shoes once, and had a Rat the size of a Dog run up my arm, jump off my shoulder onto my roommate's lap while he was reading, then bounced off my bed, then right out the window to the ground. I lived on 3rd floor. There were 5 floors. Rooms got smaller as you went higher to 5th floor. Easy to Pass Liquor pass the Metal Mesh Screens as friends were walking up the Ramps. A good many Players lived in South Stadium then, and they were the only rooms with AC. Mike the Tiger woke everybody up EVERY SINGLE night at 2am... when they Fed him a wheel barrel full of meat. If anybody was there that year... that was me who rolled the Bowling Ball every night down the hallway with a "Chip" in it, between 2 and 4am. Made some HELLacious noise as it rounded the circumference of the concrete hallway. Guy on the very end would grab it before anybody could come up and investigate. Anybody who was anywhere near Me that year probably Hated Me! I turned the whole year into my very own Jackass Movie! I don't think Ie ever went to sleep when it was dark outside. Had to take showers late at night, because it was wide open. Even the toilets were all inside one room with showers...unless you Enjoy taking a shower rubbing elbows with the guy staring at himself in the mirror the whole..... moved to Power Dorm after that. That was enough. LSU went 0-7 in the SEC that year... never was an empty seat in the house, and noise was UNREAL from start to finish... very different from the Fans now!

There was no RA in the South Stadium in 85, when I was there. Folks used to smoke stuff in the rooms, and in the hall, and we had cold beer and hot plates. On game days we used to sit on the door steps and drink and make fun of people. I had no idea that people arrive in the morning and walk around and around the stadium all day. We'd count how many times people would walk by. Some people walk around the stadium ten times or more on a game day. It's crazy.

I remember awaking to the roar of Mike The Tiger while sleeping in North Stadium during the late 70's. Some Tulane idiots were trying to spray paint Mike green. LSU students were about to brutalize the Tulane students before LSU Police arrived.

It was miserable, smelly and hot. Very loud on game day. Cinder block construction for the most part.
