I remember the guy at the snack bar.
I also remember when the ticket office was in the stadium and I think it was near where the snack bar was.

I stayed in West, North, and East stadium dorms. Each for a year. Never uncomfortable in any. These years were the first three of ten years of education
in order to get a professional medical degree. Probably the best three years of my life.

Had to friends who lived in North Stadium dormitories 1984-85. We called them the projects.
I'd stay with them all the time. One room, hot, community bathroom. But we had a blast and made plenty of friends.
Fun for football games too, get juiced up in the room and just walk down the stairs and the gate was a 20 yard walk away.

Had a good friend who lived in East dorms for two semesters in mid seventies. One payphone in the hallway. Every time I tried to call for my friend, some foreign guy would say "ehh, no Bruce here". Used to be the best place for scoring a little herb. There were plenty of broke students always trying supplement their income. I remember the bunk beds being built into the wall and something about the resonance of the building would produce deep sleep. I've never slept that good. Like sleeping in a deep cave. Kind of a neat place.

quote:I was in ES at that time. There was only 1 phone per floor, but it wasn't a payphone, just a regular phone. But usually, the guy whose room was right by the phone wouldn't walk the 40 yards or so to go get the person the call was for. No messages either.

My cousin had a room directly over the student gates. When the gates would open he would repel to the front of the line.

Last story-some of the guys on my floor at West Stadium were from PLaqumines Parish. First time I heard of Leander Perez. They said he paid tuition for every PLaqumines Parish resident to go to LSU. Also, I drank my first fifth of orange wine that the boys brought up to school. Hmmmmmm...

This story comes from an Lsu grad that i used to work with. Now retired. 50s or 60s i believe. Anyway before a rice game the students hung a huge sign outside their dorm (stadium) windows that read
"what comes out of a china-mans ash RICE RICE RICE"

And your last I'm assuming.
All in all if you were not crazy about it, you could do a lot of drinking in there. Almost everybody had booze in their lockers. "Surprise" inspections did happen but there was usually a few hours warning. It was a real live and let live atmosphere.
However, if you were the person that did something stupid and caused things to tighten up, there was a price to be paid. Unofficially of course. But the message got out.

Didn’t live in the rooms but worked out of them in the late 80s the 2nd and 3rd floors on west side were offices for School of Coastal Sciences – had some prof, technicians and grad student offices there until they opened up the Coastal Studies Bldg. For AC we had window bangers and I cant imagine living there w/out it, it barely kept up. As many mentioned heat was spotty too most of us had an electric heater to supplement. The things I remember before game day was the smell of popcorn starting on Thurs to prep for a game day so no the popcorn wasn’t fresh.... Also the Monday after gameday was the leaf blower symphony ... they blew all the trash down to the ground floor w/ leaf blowers .... it seemed like they used 100 and it lasted for hours. Windows didn’t close, had the biggest roaches that I ever saw.
We didn’t bring many visitors to our offices we used meeting rooms in other parts of the campus....
Walking in and out we did see lots of players and I met Curly on one of his 1st days on campus.... little did I know how much pain he would inflict on LSU fans

Yes I was in the Stadium from 70-72. One night I heard a huge explosion and found out someone blew up a campus police vehicle.
Another night was the night of glass where everyone through anything made of glass outside the window and covered the walk way with broken glass.
You have to understand these were turbulent times in America at that time.

Reading through these posts I realized 2 things. The first being those dorms should have had a movie written about them if most of the stories are true. Second thing I learned, there are a WHOLE BUNCH of people who lie their asses off on this thread. That or their memories are cluttered by chemical residue and they think they lived in, sweated in, partied in those dorms.

1981. Lived in Hodges facing the east side dorms. We would shoot marbles at the windows with a wrist rocket. Not proud of it, but we did plenty other juvenile stuff back then as well. BTW Hodges did not have A/C either. Community bathrooms. We would bring an ice chest of beer, put a chair in the shower and sit under the water drinking for hours. Good times.

Another story:
In the Southernmost section of ES about 78-81, we had 5 guys. One guy lived next to me and I called him "Naked Bill". Sometimes he would walk around our section naked. He was a marathon runner and owned about 40 pairs of shoes.
Another guy was gay. He loved Dolly Parton music and would sing along to her songs. Very strange. You could hear him throughout the whole section.
One of the other guys was in ROTC and had to stay very fit. The gay fellow would park himself on a toilet anytime the ROTC guy would take a shower. There was a large mirror across from the toilets, so he could watch the other guy taking a shower. Somehow, he always got finished just as the shower did. The ROTC guy didn't seem to mind as long as that was all there was to it.
We also sawed the lock off of the utility door at the end of the hall. In it we found an old chalkboard that became our poker table for our weekly games. The storage area had a surprise - there was a ladder down to the storage room below. That room had another ladder to the room below and so on all the way to the 1st floor. I have no idea what would be the purpose of that, but we would sometimes drink a little and do some exploring.
When I was there, ES was an upperclass dorm an there was no fear of getting caught with anything not supposed to be there.

Maybe everyone who has lived in the stadium meet at the stadium before the Alabama game or some other home game this coming season and hoist a cold one. A reunion of sorts.
