The mental gymnastics to defend a shitty coach with a 14-40 record is mind blowing
wasn't defending anything I was saying its possible they could be ok next year with the foundation of Miller and reed and Collins and v Miller. those guys are talented. need a big rebound man, and a PG who can create

We are going to fricking suck again. Embrace it. Also, go look at the recruiting rankings of Florida’s starting 5 when you get the chance. It’s amazing what a good coach can do.

McMahon says hold your horses. Rome wasn’t built in a day, probably looking at two more years before we can properly judge

Hell, McMahon feels he has 5 tears left on his contract to build a winning orogeam and develop a personality!

Man I didn't know Tiger Rag still even existed. Looks like basketball SI found him a soft landing with an outlet that would not ask tough questions and would let CMM get the party line out without following up.

I think this may have been discussed a few weeks ago, but I recently spoke with someone who is somewhat clued in with some donors who said there are going to be some staff changes (assistant coaches). David Patrick would be back, but 1-2 other assistants/staff wouldn't...at the urging of some of the donors. I got the sense the AD was treating this like football where you will see a HC fire a coordinator to save his own job. I question the logic in that approach when it comes to basketball because the coordinators in football generally have far more control over the gameplay than assistants in basketball. We'll see if that actually comes to pass.
Regardless, IF the (estimated) $8M in NIL funding is true, that would put LSU among the top of the SEC given schools like Arkansas, Kentucky, and even those outside the SEC, like St. John's, only reported estimates of $4M-$7M last year. That means, or at least should mean, the perpetual excuse train is finally over. We should have our answer on the accuracy of the reporting over the next few weeks because if McMahon really does have that kind of money available then LSU should be very much in the mix for multiple top 50 transfers (landing a few). If they aren't, I think we will have our answer that either (A) the significant NIL increase narrative is BS, and/or (B) even with significantly more NIL, McMahon can't sign top talent.
You can't tell everyone you have much more NIL money, then only sign one decent major-conf. player (who has Louisiana ties) along with a few average guys from low/mid-major conferences.

I read someone on here say Trilly Donovan (X insider) saying LSU was sending two assistants packing. If it’s true I feel horrible for Jalen Courtney. He left a great job and stable situation to help his alma mater and matt McMahon.
Jalen Courtney is not the reason we are 3-15 in conference play but I guess some need to hear that

Which hot assistants are gonna come join a potential (likely) lame duck staff? And then you’ll be spending more cash to pay off the other guys then hire replacements.

Seasons over and now he’s fired up.

If you've ever been to a practice or watched coach/player interaction at games - and I know you do - Patrick is very involved - it almost seems as much or more than CMM at times. So is that good or bad to have him back, I could not say.

Agreed these are the main questions here. I honestly think CMM has recruited relatively well. But I do have questions as to evaluation, roster construction, development and who plays when and how much under CMM.
And they HAVE to get tougher and more physical. As you well know that is and has always been easily my biggest issue with all three seasons under CMM. The lack of toughness adversely affects everything we do.

Everyone feeling "fired up" yet?
I know McBundleOfEnergy can't wait!

Hiring Courtney is one of maybe three things Matt McMahon has ever done in three years I liked, so it’s only fitting he falls on the sword

You could say the same thing about top transfers (with the potential lame duck staff. Unless they are upper classmen
I don’t think many players with multiple years of eligibility left would want that, especially since many of them are transferring BECAUSE of a coach leaving or getting fired

Spent a whole day arguing with me about this and yet another LSU source confirms the same thing. Are they all wrong? If so, please cite your sources.
quote:
two of McMahon’s three portal signees – guard Jordan Sears of UT Martin and guard Dji Bailey of Richmond – were not impressive. Each were from smallish schools and not ready for prime time SEC basketball. McMahon got what he paid for on a limited NIL budget, which was among the lowest in the SEC at approximately $2 million.
This year, McMahon’s NIL budget for roster retention and enhancement is approximately to $8 million, according to sources, because of newfound NIL strategies and financial deployment by LSU. That means McMahon can shop for much better players than last year. He is likely targeting four portal players, but in significantly more elite pools because of his larger budget.

Already posted sources, you haven’t posted a single 1.

So because it's written it's considered a "source", but spoken by media on a podcast is not.
LSU "sources" are wrong. Your article is not..
I digress. Have a nice day.
