I loved that team. I'm just pointing out revisionist history. It's unreal how "perfect" everyone thinks things were.

You know what hurts? That team got decidedly better as the season went along. After a painful loss to Ole Miss, Nick Saban did some soul searching and went to Jimbo and said, "Let er rip!" From that moment on Rohan Davey and Josh Reed were unstoppable. Has Les Miles ever racked up over 500 years of offense at Alabama? Josh Reed won the Bilentikoff Award for the best receiver in college football. Reed wasn't better than Odell Beckham, and Rohan wasn't better than Zach Mettenberger. But coaching allowed those two to set passing and receiving records.

Lsu simply wanted it that particular night. Tennessee had some talent, but outplayed them

It wasn't like Saban was coaching a no-name squad, we were pretty loaded with future NFL players. And Rohan getting hurt was a blessing in disguise, Chavis never adjusted to a running QB. We probably lose that game if Rohan's in the whole game.

I'm watching right now. Just told my brother how much more enjoyable these old teams used to be.

You are right. They do not reconize the accomplishments of a team that actually won the SEC and defend a coach who should of been fired.

There is literally one year in Les Miles' tenure that LSU got better as a team as the year went on. 06. Shouldn't surprise who our OC was.

Well it is true that the west is much stronger now. That's not really even something you could reasonably debate

Most of the players playing in that game were key players on the NC team in 2003!

So it took two more years for the team to come together as a championship unit?

Odell is awesome. But I'd take josh reed over him in college any day of the week. Reed was the best route runner I've seen and was always open. Loved watching him play.

Can you tell me what the fire able offense is for this coach? Should be entertaining.

I think it's just a fair argument. The SEC west was weak. A 3 loss team represented it. This three loss team was out of it after one loss, basically.

I'd take Mauck or Davey back right now. Reed. Ryan Clark. Brady James. Andrew Whitworth.

Just saying, it's not like that was some altogether inferior team, talent wise... And we scrapped ourselves to an improbable win with an 8-3 record. How and why did we lose to Ole Miss??? Remember that?

This isn't a Les v Saban thing, just a 8-3 happens sometimes thing. Just understand it and believe in a NC run soon.

The Florida, Tennessee, and Ole Miss games were NOT fun.

Especially the Ole Miss game. The Florida game felt like this years Bama game, but worse.

LSU caught a horrible break drawing Tennessee and Florida from the East that season. Eli Manning ripped the secondary to shreds...but LSU DID catch fire after that game, and got better.

I started that thread thinking it was gonna get a page, maybe 2. But 6 pages was crazy. Enjoyed watching that game. Mauk was gritty af running that QB Power over and over again

What are you saying? As for this year did we catch a bad break that Alabama and Ole Miss are real good and we had to play them both on the road? That we played the East rep at home? That Arkansas this year fills the same type of spot that Ole Miss did in '01?

No kidding... You're an idiot if you think that 8-3 team is anywhere close to this one.

1998- 4-7 (No bowl)
1999- 3-8 (No bowl)
2000- 8-4 (Bowl win)
2001- 10-3 (Bowl win) 8 double digit wins, 2 double digit losses. Won final 6 games to win SEC and Sugar Bowl. Coaches 2nd year. 5 ranked SEC teams on Dec 7.

2012- 10-3 (Bowl loss)
2013- 10-3 (Bowl win)
2014- 8-5 (Bowl loss)
2015- 8-3 so far with 6 double digit wins, 3 double digit losses. Blown out in 3/4 of last games to almost finish unranked and play in Texas Bowl. Coaches 11th year. 4 ranked SEC teams on Dec 7.

I remember that flowers kid WR for OM getting turned a flip in that game.

I was so pissed after that game. Long drive back home to MS.

The fans booed the team going into the tunnel at half.

But the rest of that season was tits. The team got better each week.

That WR for TN killed LSU in the first meeting, but Daniels came in and shut the door on his arse

Hey, I love it. One of my favorite games of all time. Watching Chavis (hindsight) not be able to counter Maucks QB runs, Dominick Davis showing flashes of brilliance!

I loved it, and I'm not trying to diminish that year as much as trying talk people off the ledge about this year.
