Thompson's first 8th inning AB was a game changer.

Down 0-2, battles back to get an RBI hit. Just watched the bottom of the 8th again.

From the BPB by the gentleman and scholar, Mr. CheerWhine:

"Thompson up, Pearson on 1st, Berry on 2nd, no outs, crookedness on the board

foul, 0-1
foul, 0-2
foul, 0-2
foul, 0-2
outside, check swing, he held up, 1-2
lands fair down the left field line, double, Berry scores!!!!!!!"

I believe that was his next to last AB....he hit into a double play to end the 8th inning in his very last AB....

I agree with you re the maturity he showed to work back from 0-2 in that AB to get the hit was outstanding!!

Thompson has been on a hitting tear for the last 20 games or so. He’s got to be hitting about .350 in that stretch. He’s had his struggles on defense, and at this point he gets dumped on by the haters for plays that Cal Ripken couldn’t have made.

But the kid keeps playing hard and helped us win that game last night. The at bat in the OP was THE KEY at bat of that 8th inning.

I agree. The kid battles at the plate. Wish he could improve on defense. He is a hard out.

That was the pivotal AB of the night for sure.

His defense has deserved criticism at many times, but at this point he catches heat for many plays that no one could be expected to make. If we had a better option, we would have found it by now. We should be thankful that the kid has not gone in the tank and is at least giving LSU positive at bats and is helping us score runs.

Out of all of the knocks melters bitch about this team, one thing that cannot be melted on is 95% of this team's ability to effectively work with two strikes.

I'd have been pretty pissed if I was on the other side of that check swing. It was about as close as it gets

There’s no doubt that we have a philosophy about the game from the head coach and that two strike hitting is a major part of his philosophy

You can tell that he’s engrained in their minds a will to battle their arse off in the abs . I’ve never seen a team that so tough to strike out . It feels that way at least

Part of the hate Thompson gets is due to the fact that a large portion of his errors come on routine (for shortstop) plays, especially plays where he has plenty of time. It's almost like he overthinks plays (possibly considering past errors even) when he has too much time. He has shown that he has a very strong arm and has made some rather impressive plays. It's not like he doesn't have potential, but rather just fails to consistently play up to it which is frustrating in its own right (in addition to the errors themselves and their consequences).

Really liked how he beat his chest when he was down 0-2 in the count. It was like he was saying okay guys I got this you can count on me.

It was a great AB, but many of the other successful ABs that inning were just as important.

Why even bring that ab up? Like why do couch warriors like yourself get such a hard on from being negative about everything?
Dude had 2 very clutch and crucial rbi producing at bats last night but you wanna bring up the DP ab…
