This why I think LSU fans have grown soft.

I don't think all the fans suck, and I think there are times, maybe twice a year, when the stadium is really rocking. But it's rare. People leave early, if they go at all. Generally, people nowadays are staying home and watching the games on TV.
I made reference in another post to people being addicted to the conveniences of modern life. It's true. It's not just cell phones and Hi Def TV's. It's also this idea that the "fan experience" needs to be improved to make people want to come out to the game.
Club and suite seating is great for raising money, but it is a disaster for having a loud, engaged stadium. I've been in the club a few times, and no doubt it is swank. Great food, good alcohol, comfy seats. It's mostly rich people dressing nice and hoping to socialize and get seen. Many, the women especiallly, spend most of their time in the club and very little in their seats, and they're ready to leave by halftime. And here's a newsflash: people in the club and suites don't get loud. Not at all.
For chrissake, we are taking FOOTBALL and trying to turn it into a luxury experience. This attitude has now spread to non-clubby parts of the stadium. There really isn't a solution. But it's not really getting better anytime soon.

Yaw, yaw! You’re a real fan! It’s football! Supposed to be loud! I bet you played middle school football too.

This is ground breaking stuff right here.

Club and suite sections don’t cause the apathy. Has nothing to do with the lower bowl emptying out early. Traffic, HDTV, and LSUs refusal to let fans sell ticket rights has everything to do with it.

The people and corporations in the suites and club seats fund LSU football.

Don’t agree....have sat in club and suites nearly exclusively for the last few years and it was rocking in those areas! Like scream at the top of your lungs until your blue in the face and bang on the seat in front of you kind of rocking.

Getting to and from the stadium is a pain in the arse and I’m not dealing with the traffic and the parking and all the other bullshite when I can watch it on my couch. Sorry not sorry.

There are many many factors, but I think the conveniences vs. annoyances, as you stated, is the biggest. At one point in my life I had just enough money and lived close enough where I would go to a game anytime over watching it on Jefferson Pilot. Things change.
Money vs. Demographic- many big earners have moved a considerable distance, over time, away from BR (myself included)
Money vs. Demographic- is there enough money still in the area to overcome the cheaper conveniences.
Les Effect- (yes, fully aware people will take exception to this). Has nothing to do with wins/losses. Have to admit, we knew what we'd get with a Les game. For some (myself included) that was perfectly fine. For a whole group of people new always equals better, and they wanted to see 40mins of Hell on grass. Personally I get my rocks off good D and watching an OG pancake some undersized Ole Miss LB on a pull.
Other Sports? This is not just an LSU problem. Has other sports rising in the 90's started to affect fanbases? I don't think that it's a coincidence that rise of the soccor mom's immediately preceded this. The kids of those "football is too violent" moms are now in their first 5 years of being an alumni (and students). The "we live football" generation are now middle-management (or better) in Houston and Atlanta. So the infatuation of those in-place may be lessened.
Students? Think it's a pain in the arse on us? Imagine being in architecture and trying to get to your lab on a Sat with books, easel, and other various shite. Greeks occupy the backbone of the student fanbase at games. I say double the student seating and leave Greeks out of the expansion. Take that seating from aftermarket sellers of season tickets. I'm in this age group, so include me. We get enough from SECN and SEC distributions to take the contribution hit. The students can make, or break, the overall atmosphere. I say give us more, not less.
ETA: and for some reason everybody thinks your Ted Bundy evil if you "hate". frick that. Every week, I HATE our opponent. The atmosphere should reflect that. Respect is for after the game... if you lose. Taunting is for if you win. Hate should precede both. So what if the DEKEs have a "bad" sign hastily painted on a bed sheet. So what if someone gets offended by getting Tigerbaited. Why should we give a frick if there's bulletin board material. Hell, we're from Louisiana, we're always different anyway- go for it.

I use a city shuttle to get to and from the games, because LSU convinced me they don’t want me to tailgate when they took away most tailgating space, and they convinced me they don’t want my vehicle near the campus when they started charging high prices for parking.
I bring my own food and drink into the stadium, because LSU convinced me not to buy from their concessions with rude incompetent employees and again, outrageously high prices.
So I don’t feel any real connection to the school anymore, other than paying the TAF and the Ticket Office each year. And what I’m paying is getting close to outrageously high, and LSU will have convinced me again.

the football game experience has completely changed since I was a student. people make a lot more money now and it's all about comforts if you can afford it. nfl and college.
hell, I have tailgated with the president of a major Louisiana company out of the trunk of his car. his money and prestige got him a parking spot right next to the stadium near the old jet and that was it. we really had a great time. there were no suites. the guy had season tickets near the 50 yd line about half way up but that's about as good as it got. the first upper deck wasn't even planed and I don't think TAF even existed. there was another booster club but it was pretty small and basically existed to supplement the HC's salary. LSU could not pay the coach more than the governor and they added to Mac's salary. I can't remember his total pay but it was just a few hundred k and that included his pay for the tv show also.
yes, the fans have grown soft. they are also older as many of the younger fans have been priced out of the market. the final "product" 30-50 years from now will be very different. i think college football is peaking or already has and expect the sport to gradually decline in popularity
i honestly think the experience 50 years ago was better. but maybe some of that was my age then.

Start a lottery and draw for the season tickets. Cut the number of season ticket holders and sell with price based on demand, based on the opponent. Get some fans into the stadium who currenly can only buy shite seats, if at all.
Get as many students as possible into the stadium and give them decent seats unless they are Greeks then stick them out of the way since they will be leaving early. The intended purpose of football was to entertain the students but the NCAA and the TAF are more concerned with dollars

i do not doubt that some of your ideas will be adopted one day. that is, if financial sanity ever returns to college football. i like the idea of pricing based on the competition and cutting the number of season ticket holders. however, one day i expect the market will handle that.

Yep. People that lazily blame premium seating have simply never been up there.

Many factors but espn and ticket prices are the 2 main reasons.

If you want to give a percentage of your income to the athletic department, make sure you tell me where to show up so I can clap for you.
