A month ago I posted that Peterson's stuff may play up in relief if he's just asked to go out there and air it out. After all, he's still hitting the mid 90s with his fastball. LINK

Before the season I thought he would be a solid Sunday guy for us all year. I was wrong.

In 8 innings over 2 games as a starter he had the following stats:

ERA: 9.00
WHIP: 2.125
K%: 11.1
K/9: 4.5
BB%: 16.7

Somewhere after his last start, before things really clicked for him in relief, I said that he just doesn't have a put away pitch to strike guys out. I was wrong again.

In 13.2 innings over 9 relief appearances he's done this:

ERA: 2.63
WHIP: 1.097
K%: 35.7
K/9: 13.17
BB%: 1.8

He's struck out 20 batters and walked 1 in relief. He's only allowing 1 guy to reach per inning.

This is the Todd Peterson we expected when we signed him. The Todd Peterson that was a BA500 guy and a draft risk out of high school. It's fun to see him developing in front of us.

As deep as this pitching staff is turning out to be, if this team starts getting timely hit, we could definitely make a deep run this year.

It's almost like Paul Mainieri knows what he's doing.

I think it's more about getting Smith and Broussard back and Feduccia removing his head from his anus. Hal Hughs is going to be a good hitter for us, just not this year.

I felt like if Todd lost all the weight he had in his arse, he would do good things. Was really pulling for him as a starter, but that didn't happen. Glad to see him doing well out of the pen and that CPM gave him a chance.

Tiger's pitching has turned it around after those first two weekends. Been fun watching all of them improve as the season progresses.

I'm really liking the way Peterson is throwing also.

BB%: 16.7
BB%: 1.8

That stat says it all. Instead of pitching behind he's able to control the at bats, his stuff is great.

Who is the actual closer? It’s not Bain correct?

This is that time of year we like to start to go on runs when things get figured out like this.

Here's to hoping for a weekend sweep of aTm

My only concern would be how long it takes for Smith and Broussard to catch up while everyone else gets it going.

Well if it’s anything like Watson it will be the weekend they come back. Broussard will probably come along quicker than Smith.

From reports Smith could be back for Tennessee. I don’t see him doing any worse offensively than Hughes.

That's a good point about Smith and Hughes. Guess we will have to wait to see who's gonna play 3rd.

When was the last time our bullpen gave up a run?

Hopefully it’s Slaughter. He has been hitting the ball hard, but right at people. He always seems to have have one or two dumbass at bats per game. If he can eliminate those and have a better approach he should come around.

I believe the streak is at 29.1 innings. The Tulane game I think.

Have not heard of anyone being the "Closer" as of yet. Lynn & Ben keep saying it's Bain, but that hasn't been the case.
Several candidates come to mind, Bush, Peterson, of late, & Beck. If Cam Sanders can keep it around the plate, he has some wicked pitches.
Bull pen as a whole has been doing great, and the "Closer by Committee" is what has been happening, thus far, with Bush probably leading the pack.
Hope their scoreless streak can continue, it's at 29+ innings now.

That's just a real head-scratcher for me. He's good for one or two dropped balls a game; sometimes they're strikes. You just have to hope that nobody's on base when it happens. It looks to me like he gets a little lackadaisical sometimes. The glove is almost in the right spot but not quite and the ball caroms off the padding.

Back to the subject of Peterson. I guess some people are more comfortable coming in from the pen. Either that or he just suddenly figured it out in general. Whatever the case, I'm happy to see him turn it around. We need a guy that can bridge the gap for a few innings to get to Bush/Beck/Bain.

Thanks Project! I always appreciate your insights. You are one of those guys that I stop and take note of what you say. You seem to have great knowledge of the game, and usually have good updates and/or info that you share with TD.

I think it’s 29 1/3 innings ago.
