Attendance across college football is down, and it’s continuing to be a reoccurring theme around the game, causing stadiums to enhance their in-game experience to keep butts in seats.

quote:

Attendance is down for students and non-students alike. As a recent WSJ article explained, student attendance at the major schools such as Alabama and Georgia have been declining even during championship seasons.

The most common reason cited for declining attendance is HD television. The broadcast at home is so good that people would rather sit at home and watch the game. The advances in HD are true of course, but it falls short, in my opinion, of explaining the trend. The theory that poor cell reception and lack of wifi are the reasons for people staying at home are laughable in my opinion; so much so that the proposed solution of adding wifi capability to stadiums is likely to be a dud. Do we really think people are staying at home because they can’t get on Facebook during half time? I know we love social media, but I doubt people are deciding between being at the game and being able to access Facebook..

Through six weeks, stadiums are over 96 percent capacity in 2013. Texas A&M is busting at the seams with 105% capacity, while Missouri is filling just 86% capacity. Georgia, Texas A&M, South Carolina, Ole Miss and Mississippi State are all averaging 100% capacity.

and if you read the comments on the UGA story in one of the Georgia papers, you learn UGA screwed the pooch when they partnered with Stubhub. Students could not get paper tickets any longer and thus could not transfer them among themselves. Consensus was it hurt student attendance.

They have more articles than those out, I had an entire thread about it being a problem across all of CFB. That was just one I posted earlier today so it was easier to find.

Television makes it easier to skip out on a game. Why would I want to go to a game and sit in the upper deck when I can sit at home and not deal with that headache of traffic, parking, and unruly fans? I actually get a better view sitting on my couch and being about to drink/do whatever I want.

Games are no longer blacked out where the only way to watch is to actually go to the Stadium. Every game is on CBS, ESPN,ESPN2, Foxsports, SECTv, etc so I don't have to miss any game. Plus I can watch from my TV, Laptop, and phone so it is nothing to actually go out and still watch the game.

We can talk about ticket prices, parking prices or Miley Cyrus being why the LSU football experience is suffering but actually its all a matter of hassle for me and the evidence is plain to see that hassle is a reason for others. Forget about the complications driving to and from the game, just getting into the game is a frustrating disaster that is getting worse.

The student section entrance was an epic cluster and the result is now students choosing not to spend 4 hours standing in it. Shocker!

Sorry if someone already posted a similar take...today is much different than the program was prior to mid 2000's. We as a fan base aren't trying to prove to the rest of the country what kind of program we have unless we play a top 10 team. We just take for granted that a win over anyone outside of the top 10 is merely another game. I'm guilty of this as well to an extent. Winning on a consistent basis is just expected and we as football community don't get hyped throughout the week for a big game. We used to have something to prove to the Florida's, the Tennesee's, the Auburn's back in the day because we couldn't stay on the field with them year after year. Times have changed and it's much better to be winning organization and have that chance to play for the big one annually but is does create complacency.

I don't appreciate your response to my post.

This is an Internet message board. If you don't have anything negative to say then just don't say anything at all.

Only one thing to do: organize boycott (attendance, tailgating, etc.) until Big Brother LSU capitulates.

Try going to the bathroom in the stadium. I think there are 2 men's bathroom on west side, 1 at top and bottom. Can never get in! Tough shite if you have to crap!
