This team and coach have a lot of work to do if we want to even sniff top 12.

Right now we look like a 17-24th ranked team but definitely not a playoff team. This is on Kelly.

I disagree.
Most of our flaws are fixable in season and probably will be to some extent.
Penalties, playcalling, run blocking, nuss pushing ball down field, secondary breakdowns. All can get better pretty quickly, nothing drastic.

Can you name some things that can’t get better pretty quickly? Run blocking isn’t going to magically get better, Sage Ryan isn’t going to suddenly grow 4 inches so he can cover a receiver 1 on 1

This game was 2or 3 plays away from being completely different ending. Disappointed we lost but get rid of the stupid penalties and even that could have changed the game. Took 2 spectacular one handed catches to grr e t them 2 scores. Not as bad as it looks. I think we’ll see d add one Collin’s packages as season moves forward. Could have used a few RPO in that game but they don’t want to risk nuss getting hurt.

Our defense last year. Whole unit was a catastrophe.
Run blocking can and will get better, Sloan will get better at scheming what works.
Sage is going to lose his job to the raw but very talented young guys. Many of which flashed yesterday.
What else you got?

Good take. Totally agree.

Yes, fixes that take years, not weeks. Fixes in coaching and talent

Cool, but we aren't making the playoffs losing two more games, which it's hard to see us beating Ole Miss right now.

Completely disagree. We are in a great spot, this game didn’t really matter and the mistakes we did make are easily fixable. Kelly will coach them up and get us competing for a playoff spot.

This never was going to be a playoff team. & it’s not really on Kelly

You’re always a negative person. Always. No matter what. That must be a terrible way to live. Do you have any joy in your life? I’ve never seen you post anything positive before.

This game didn’t matter?????? This game ABSOLUTELY mattered. Every game matters.

Why didn't they fix them in game then?
What might not be fixable is Kelly's split personality. Gets super aggressive and doesn't take the points on the first drive that killed all momentum and then he gets timid in the second half with play calling when we could have put the game away.
A clear message isn't being sent to the team about what our identity is

Def fixable

playcalling
There were a few but not as many as people are complaining about. More of it was execution.

run blocking
Yep. Though I think some of that was personnel and unfortunately I am unsure how you fix that. We need better blocking by the tight ends that can catch so it is not more obvious when we are running.

secondary breakdowns
They were better than last season and I saw some things that made me hopeful. But the secondary needs to improve quickly.
Sucks that all that has to be seen in a tough early-game matchup rather than an easy opener.

This whole thread you just started is pretty negative. Huh guy?
Who is better equipped to handle LSU not being a playoff team? The one that never thought they were (me) or the guy who thought they were (you) ?

You don’t think they tried some things in game? You think they just know which plays go for big plays and which don’t? It’s the first game of a new QB and OC and overall they played pretty well.

I mostly agree with everything you said.
I really like the part about tough openers. If we played a Citadel we get a chance to iron a lot of that out.

I'd be surprised if LSU finishes in the top 20.

Watching the game last night felt like Miles was still the HC.
