Damn, I bet the coaches didn't know this! Thanks for this bit of info that none of us knew.

Arik Gilbert was the only 5* TE in history
So what’s your point ?

When your starting LT is Cam Wire and you have no true left tackles behind him says alot about where we are. Exactly why Will Campbell will be starting at LT as a True freshmen

We will never recruit on that level. I have been following recruiting since the 80's. We can get a great out of state lineman on occasion, but if Louisiana does not produce OL we will recruit that position insufficiently in numbers. That has been true for 40 years.
I see the issue partially resolved (mostly?) by several schools, led by LSU, taking the initiative and educating HS coaches. A big reason we lack the super-crop of instate OL is their level of training at the HS level. We need better coaches at the high schools.
When we put out bumper crops of DL but not OL genetics, nutrition, etc. do not explain it.
Yes- when there's 5*'s in state we need to do a better job of keeping them in state. But that's no guarantee. When supply is low and you can't guarantee you are first to the trough you do what you can to increase that supply.
We lack the big population centers to have a huge number of huge schools. Yes we have some "go to" schools. But the number of them compared to say FL or TX is quite small. So without those numerous, massive ISDs and the higher quality of coaching to rely on we have to improve the coaching, hence training, and thus supply of OL that you can get SEC ready in 2 years (or less).

I think Coach O’s exact wording after his first loss to Bama was, “we need lineman.”

Why don’t you call CEO and tell him this huge mystery you’ve solved.

So true. Nice post.

Seems to me having Coach Davis in the fold---being from BR is part of it---should provide continuity in techniques that won't be changed because he's heading somewhere else in 3 or 4 years.

Saban had a tough time recruiting top OLmen when he was here
Guess he figured it out

How do you explain Arkansas’s o-line being better than ours a lot of the time.
Posted on 8/16/21 at 6:01 pm to rjacksonmroctober
O inherited Miles’ cluster frick along the offensive line. Miles’ opinion that the Oline was positionless led to holes at key spots. But Orgeron is not blameless, the hiring of Cregg was a mistake so now we’re behind on the development in the Orgeron era. Hopefully we’ve got it right this time and can start to build it correctly.

Light years apart? Thats ridiculous. How do you explain LSU kicking everyones arse in 2019, including bama then? We had a great unit of offensive linemen that worked hard during their time here and developed themselves into the best line in america and won an award for doing so.

I'll call coach and tell him to start recruiting better players than Bama. Great thinking!

Being brutally honest here. The "gap" will only widen until Satan retires. Its just that simple. As long as we have the GOAT coaching/recruiting in the same division we will have to take whatever scraps he left behind. 2019 showed that all we need is 5 guys that gel together not 5 guys that were 5 stars coming out of high school.

Was that the secret to winning it all in 2019?

our O Line has as much talent as Bama. I aint scared
I happen to agree with you. One of few. Hang in there. Bama is not unbeatable. We gonna git ‘em this year and I think we beat ‘em more than they beat us over the next ten yrs. The young people on this board are not stupid, they just don’t have enough LSU football under their belt to know better.
