I visualise the day in which soccer will supplant football as the marquee attraction on Saturday nights in Death Valley

How does that help Davidson? They have to do the same thing, right? The best players are still going to LSU.

the best players are going to the SEC, but a lot of depth (think Coomes, Chris Reid, Woley, Romero) has to choose between a bit of a scholarship at LSU or getting more at a place like in the Sun Belt or Southland. Davidson's an extreme outlier like Stony Brook was. Hope they enjoyed this run bc their program history suggests they won't be back soon.

Btw, chopping up aid shuts out kids from less prosperous families. You limit those because they can't get a full ride under the current system. It's not practical to give a whole schollie to one kid as you can in hoops and football.
will say this bc i don't know, but i bet the studs of studs are on full scholarships, especially the aces. you kind of have to give those to compete with MLB signing bonuses.

since women are eligible to receive a football scholarship, shouldn't it be removed from the equation?

Yeah... that makes sense.....

Seems like every college should get a lump sum of schollies to do with as they please with any sport.

Uh... no. If you think Alabama dominates now, remove the scholarship restrictions and see how they do. Remember the Bear Bryant years? That's all he did was sign everybody knowing damn good and well that 75% of them would never see the field.

Title IX is idiotic. The culture has long since caught up with that law. Nobody will kill women's sports now.

It's not idiotic. It just needs to have football taken out of the equation. Football is what off balances the scholarships so much as there is no women's equivalent sport.

Could you imagine if there was a group who limited music scholarships, engineering scholarships, or scholarships for other disciplines?

Sports are extracurricular activities and are not the prime reason for the existence of colleges. Besides, most majors are limited in scholarship numbers because the classes are limited in the number of students they take.

They've tried to push the gender equality thing with the WNBA, but I'm sorry, that's just not interesting to watch. If it's a sport that anyone can play, I want to see the best athletes play, and those are almost always the men.

Actually, from a fundamentals perspective of how the game was actually intended to be played, the women are far better at it. They just don't dunk or shoot tons of 3 pointers so people find it boring.

So every female bench player at every school is on full ride. Male athletes are often paying their own way or getting a partial scholarship.

Yeah, you don't know what the frick you're talking about. Since we're talking baseball/ softball...softball gets 12 scholarships in D1. They basically have to allocate just like baseball does.

Soccer is a cheap sport to play.
So almost every university implemented a girls' soccer program to be able to adhere to Title IX standards.

Look around, almost every university in LA has a girls soccer program. I think there might be 1 men's program. Maybe.

TBH, the first thing they need to get rid of is the dumb 25% of a scholarship rule. It hamstrings the coaches too much.

i think title IX would be fine if they simply exempted football considering there is no female equivalent sport and it takes up such a big chunk of schollies

NCAA scholarship limits

For reference here are the number of scholarships by sport as determined by NCAA. Why baseball has 11.7 is a question for whoever came up with that number. When watching lacrosse it looked like they had more players out there but I don't know traveling squad numbers.

I just tweeted this question to the NCAA. Think they'll respond?
