This is probably the last year of the LSU/UF series

LSU and Florida have played each other every year since 1953, with one three season gap from 1968-70. This was probably the main reason Florida was chosen as LSU's permanent opponent in 1992 after the East/West split. We currently sit on a 4-game win streak against them. Only one other time in series history did LSU manage 4 in a row, at the end of the Cholly Mac era, and ending with Stovall's first season in 1980.
This series was a dud during the 1990s, with Spurrier taking glee in crushing the program that had turned him down years earlier. Even Saban got run by Spurrier in his first two years, but since then, LSU has literally gotten even, taking a series that was underwater and making it completely even, at 33-33-3.
It sure would be nice to end the annual series with a win, and the first five-game win streak in the history of the series this year. And not only that, but to take the lead in this series for the first time since 1991.

I started following/watching LSU in the mid 90s. I never would've thought that LSU would have a chance to go ahead in this rivalry.

Conference expansion sucks. LSU loses the Florida series and instead has to play the shite dicks from college station annually. What a trade!

There was a handful of years when the LSU-UF game was the biggest game of the year, right before the LSU-Bama game became the biggest game of the year.
UF is a school with a lot of natural and economic advantages. Like Texas, they should never have a bad team, but somehow they find a way to do it.

We got massacred in the 90s for the most part, except for one special night :)
I love the UF series… who doesn’t like beating Florida man??

I have the 97 newspaper still hung up in my room from my dad. Granted it was before I was born, still cool to look at

1991 Me and my girlfriend (now wife) left the game after Shane Mathews put the gators up 16-0 in the third qtr and we had zero offense and no chance of coming back.
We left the game and proceeded to get drunk at Freds (I believe, or maybe another bar)......And conceived our first child together that night.
UF vs LSU has been special ever since. I Have that ticket framed, and we are still married after 32 years and my daughter who grew up in AZ went back and graduated from LSU.
I am Flying the whole family and some friends in for the LSU vs UF game this year. Gonna miss this annual battle.

Under either potential schedule format, we will play UF 2 years out of every 4 seasons.

Florida is my #1 hate team. I hate losing the annual rivalry.

As a Florida resident I’m sad to see this series end. Auburn UF and bama are my 3 favorite games each year. Not a fan of these super conferences forming.

Great post. My friend dropped off 2 LSU tickets (35 yard line) amazing seats at my house senior year of high school. (Pre-cell phone days) but I had a beeper lol.
I was out golfing all day with buddies and got back just in time to watch the game.
There were the tickets. I wanted to go so bad but would have been a little late.
Golfing buddy didn’t want to go to the game and hung out with a chick. So I decided to stay home and watch it on TV.
Worse mistake ever. I did at least get to tape it and still watch that game on a VCR lol.
The golfing friend who didn’t want to go with me last minute made up for it 6 years later (kinda) and went with me to the 2003 National Championship game.
But my gosh I always will regret missing that 97 game.
I took my kid and little brother to see LSU vs Florida a few times in the swamp. (Lost against Tebow and the stupid jump pass)
But got to see the fake field goal Les Miles game we won few years later.
LSU vs Florida will always be a classic, exciting game. I love that rivalry.

Started college in fall ‘92. Was there in the student section(and later on the field) in ‘97

This needs to be marketed by LSU to push excitement about this game.

Solid game to be in the student section. Hopefully you had some whiskey and some arse that night.
