I really liked seeing Mathis’s progression against the sidearm lefty in his two ABs

has PM finally realized that mid week games matter?

Great that the bats came around, but it helps that La Tech had 5 errors in the game.

The good from the game:
Hampton is now up to 0.300 batting average and looks like an everyday player.

Cranford got his first hit.

Bad: Walker is struggling this season.
Nobody wants to secure a spot in the middle infield.
Cranford: 0.091 (1-3 against La Tech)
Hughs: 0.091 (0-1)
Doughty: 0.115 (0-4 2Ks)
Dugas: 0.167 (DNP, injury)

I think it would be easier to take you seriously if you were capable of communicating in complete sentences.

You can't really just take one game and draw conclusions.

Doughty's problem is his defense. That looked better last night, but it needs to remain solid. If you watch, you would know Doughty is squaring up a bunch of baseballs, he has just gotten very unlucky. His bat isn't a concern for me.

It appears you are trying to minimize the good and highlight the bad.

11 hits is 11 hits. Those errors can't take away the hits. And why is it important to point out that it's LA Tech, when saying Cranford got a hit?

Doughty has been killing the ball there is no reason to take him out any time soon.

with gio in lineup
If you cant get consistent production from Bianco, or Dugas, or Doughty you would be an idiot to not get Gio in the lineup.

I think you keep giving all those guys opportunity to prove themselves, but Gio will come in and hit in the high 200s, and bring speed to the table.

Doughty cant get away with being a negative defensively. I dont think he is btw, but that is how he has played.

I think you have to have his bat in the lineup right now. If somebody else were significantly better defensively and decent at the plate that'd be a different story. But nobody is stepping up

I'm not going to go back and fact check, but PM was interviewed last week and he said a few years ago they didn't lose a single midweek game for the first time in program history. It all comes down to pitching depth. We should have the guys this season to go out and make it happen in the midweek games. It's also a time to give other guys some at bats who might just pinch hit from time to time. Then when it's a big SEC match up they've had enough ab's to advance runners or get the hit when needed.

LSU has gone undefeated in midweek games only twice in its history, 2012 & 2013, both under Mainieri.

EDIT: This Advocate article linked below discusses LSU's midweek games records.

Drew has 1 bunt single in 17 appearances and is inferior in the field. Unless he can really turn the bat around he will not be playing left field. I personally hope Toups can take the spot because I believe he has the higher upside of Bianco, Gio and himself but let the best man step up!

You cannot have a hole in the lineup playing left. I doubt there is a guy on the team that couldn't be fairly effective defensively out there, so whoever plays there needs to hit.

I agree that middle infield batting and defense are our biggest weaknesses. The key to overcoming this is excellent pitching which has been very encouraging so far tee his season as well as hitting from the outfielders and the other power hitters. This seems to be emerging now and we will see if it continues this weekend.
