I don’t see any team in the country that checks all the boxes. I think LSU checks more than most of the 12 teams rated ahead of them.

- better situated at QB than pre-burrow era
- stacked at DL and DB
- experience at RB
- maybe WR and OL depth are questionable but talent isn’t a problem there either

Let’s see how the coaches develop and adjust but I could see us in the hunt for the SECCG late in the season.

Are Stingley and Ricks at the scrimmage?

The younger guys really responded when called upon late last season and now they have a chance to respond again. The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior and this group fought their asses off late last year. I think we’ve always got talent and ability but what separates winners from loses in our conference is between in the ears and in the chest. I believe this group has those qualities.

we haven't even played one second of football. Just wait until we play the games, then we'll know.

This team reminds me of Clemsons 2018 Natty team. Young mobile QB, young talented WRs, returning mostly solid O line, very talented defensive front with young talented DBs. I think our DBs are better. The only problem is we play in the SEC.

I like that we have a lot of people in a “prove it” type scenario. We have a head coach looking to prove that last season was the fluke not 2019. We have 2 coordinators looking to prove that they belong in their new positions. We have a QB looking to prove that he won the job and didn’t inherit it. We have an elite corner looking to prove he’s back to the standard he set as a freshman. We have backs looking to prove they can uphold the standard former RBs at LSU have set. We have an entire defensive until looking to prove they can be great with a new leader coaching them. I like the pressure of all that, I think it brings out the best in great players and coaches.

Our WR depth isn’t an issue. Inexperienced maybe but deep as hell. Talent out the arse.

I dont worry about the ratings especially in preseason. Win and ratings will come.

What we all need to do is take off our P&G glasses and look at our opponents. It is not about how good is our talent but how good are they relative to everyone else.

Just some important preseason notes on this issue:

Bama (and tOSU) does not have a QB on the roster with a start.
aTm does not have a QB with a start.
UF - QB does not have a start but has 2 yrs with the team.
Auburn - QB is a 2 yr starter. Hopefully he has hit his ceiling.
UGA is loaded and has a QB with some experience.
OMiss - experienced QB.
MSU - ???

Why am I focusing on QB's? In my numerous years of watching SEC and NCAA the top teams have usually have an experienced QB and always is a dominant QB.

I hope so. But we seem to have a lot of nagging injuries going around right now.

And with MB out, we are one play away from stating a freshman at QB.

Do not have your optimism.
I like our defense and think it will be improved significantly. The DL could be exceptional.
Our offense is thin in several places and inexperienced at skill positions.

People are becoming more comfortable with the Jones hire since they’ve had time to check his tail. He’s coached under some very good NFL defensive minds. He understands the modern passing game and how to stop it which is what you need in the current college game. The game has changed and people understand that going with guys who’ve cut their teeth defending modern style offenses can produce better results than retreads of dinosaurs from a bygone era.

And also Peetz, he has the knowledge and mindset as he got the seal of approval from the Manning clan (plus Arch) but putting on the field and putting on paper are two different things. Just because you rub elbows with Joe Brady for a year doesn’t mean squat til Game Time. I believe he’s the right guy but just like every other opinion has to be established on the field.

This will be a barely above average team.
